Lovely! Buy a little boat and sail, sail, sail!

Little water pathways that run on the streets and used to be there to prevent the spread of fires. Today kids play in them. Them and race you boats.

Being a fan of little wooden toys, we bought our toddler a little "bachle boot" for a market stall just off the cathedral square. Lots of fun, "sailing" his little boat along the baby canals. Thoroughly recommend for non-techno fun.

Every town has churches and town halls and market squares and so on and so on. But few have Bachle. These small canals and the larger ones that cross the city give it its individuality. A walk through the Old Town and along these water ways is a real delight. So is a day trip to Staufen, Not to be... More

These little mountain streams drain thru the town. Very cute, but just be careful not to trip on them.

This is really unique and fabulous. . Number of traditional canals in most of the grounds at the center.. Really liked it so much.. The old story said if you leg fall be mistake , you will find your love in Freiburg and you will marry a lady from Freiburg. .

Kids loved them, as others have said they are not an attraction but part of the city's history. It was good to see some kids playing with wooden boats brought from the market square. Worth finding some that are actually flowing with water as some are empty.

The medieval water drains of this city are better enjoyed while listening to a local guide. You can stroll around the city inner core, follow the bachle and hear very nice old stories about the city and the use it's citizens make of this drains during the summer.
