Enjoyed the hike, once we found the way markers (look out for the little signs near a wooden gazebo where the concrete paths end above the town). Lovely views from the top, and very well done access so you can climb right to the top (even if you are scared of heights!). Good spot to relax with a drink/cake/ice cream... More

One of the highlights of our wonderful stop in Baden Baden was the hike we took up to the old castle. This is a pretty good walk with a good incline at the end but it is well worth it and imminently doable for anyone in reasonably good shape. The trail starts right down in the town. You walk up... If you visit for the spa's and don't see this castle you are missing out. They let you go all the way to the top! They also have rooms available for 76/86 euro a night which offer a great view. The accomodations are very modest so no TV or internet but offers a peaceful night with a very relaxing breakfast... More

A good walk up to the castle. Entry is free to the castle ruins and there is a nice cafe/restaurant before you set off back.

If you are in Baden-Baden to get some fresh air and a bit of exercise, let the Alt Schloss be a part of your plans. You have a few choices of ways to get to this building. The best for you depends on the level of exercise you want. Your choices are: 1) Walk to the castle from the center... More

East to get to; great setup to see entire castle; no entry charge; terrific restaurant inside; nearby trails provide outstanding views over entire city.

This "Alter Schloss" is a must for all Baden-Baden guests. The visit is free and the castle is very well preserved. You can climb to the top of the castle and a nice view over the Rhin valley comes in front. We drove there, but you can also rent a bike to climb. Don't forget to stop for a bite... More

We decided to hike up to the ruins in an effort to make make amends for the amount of delicious German food we had been eating. It is possible to buy a map from the tourist information centre (which we should have done as we took the LONG way! It took an hour to walk up and about 30 minutes... More

Not sure why this place doesn't get more attention in tourist information, city guide doesn't take you there, but you can view it from parts of the old town and if you have the chance, and as it is quite a hike, a car, please take the time to visit. You will be rewarded with some of the best preserved... More

I hiked from Baden Baden up to the castle ruins. The hiking paths were shown on the Stadtplan map available at the tourist center (Trinkhalle). The castle is in ruins but is an amazing example of a medieval castle: no Disneyworld feel here. You are allowed to go everywhere in the castle (with ladders/stairs provided to allow you to go...
