I begrudging signed up to the tour, as its was on my fiancé's list of things to do in St Étienne. It was so much better than expected!! We are French speakers, and were the only non-French natives on the tour, but there was an option to have an English guide pack to read. The tour lasted just the right... More

The mine is a big page of St Etienne history so having saved a mine and opening it to tourist sounded like a great idea. Unfortunately the intent falls a little short and if you do not have a local with you you will miss out a lot.

A great reminder that it has not been easy for many French and foreign workers of the mine. We did not get to go visit the galleries since we went on the first Sunday of the month (free for everyone and crowded). Have a look at the ''Chambre des pendus''. Not so interesting for our teenagers.

We liked the Museum quite well, since it gives a good insight into the tradition and history of the region. The guided tour was well done. The part of the mueum below the surface needs a little overhaul since many of the paperboard figures are quite run down... The temporary exhibition is quite interesting as well.

A tour in a real coal mine, for everyone who wants to understand the mining life. Very instructive for all the family.

Did not know what to expect, but it was great and authentic! My French is not great and the tour was only in French, but still amazing. Not for those who do not like tight spaces!
