Best place to stay in Lyon, it is close to everything and great restaurants nearby, shops in abundance if you are so inclined.

It is hard to get excited about what is mainly a shopping district, but I have seen many worse. The city clearly takes pride in this area and keeps it in good order.

Not the romantic old core of Lyon, but the 18th and 19th century city, with very pleasant urban landscapes, a first-rate restaurant street (rue Merciere off the Place des Jacobins), the big Fine Arts Museum and a couple of smaller ones worth visiting near Perrache station - the Decorative Arts Museum (mostly 18th century) and the Textile Museum with good... I am not crazy about shopping, and I absolutely hate big cities like Paris and Marseille. Lyon centre is comparatively in good order. However, historical sites are just ok, and shopping is still not my cup of tea.

Everything in Lyon is here and it is always a pleasant walk. I am here during the August "Vacance" time so that many shops are closed, but there is enough activities and dining options in open air. Choose a hotel here and you do not need to use public transportation.

I was staying in a hotel in Perrache and had to walk through this magnificent shopping neighborhood to reach the old city. Full of shops and restaurants, a fruits and vegetables flea market on Sunday etc. all creating a fantastic ambience any time of the day. I will particularly mention Paul’s bakery and I suggest seek the jewelry shop with... More

The Presqu’île (or "peninsula") is the heart of Lyon, extending from the foot of the Croix Rousse hill to the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône rivers. I walked from one end to the other in one afternoon , stopping wherever I wanted and it did give me a very good idea of what this city has to offer.... More

Lyon is a busy city and this is where you have the big city feeling - like Paris' champs Elysee or New York's Manhatten, London's Oxford Street. Lots of pedestrian areas, lots of shops and lots of people. there;s also a nice river side stroll to take a break from shopping!

We took a 2-hour Segway tour of Presqu'ile, and saw most of the newer development to the south. The Segways were easy enough to master, the guide was excellent, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Oh - we paid 40euro/person, but enjoyed ourselves much more than spending that amount at a restaurant :)
