What a magnificent Barocco style building with all the extreme artistic extravagance we expect from the French of that period. The square is lovely and especially on a warm balmy summers evening. Of particular note is the incredible fountain of charging marble horses that breath steam from their nostals. It sounds kitch but it is absolutely fabulous and especially at... More

Beautiful 17th century Hotel de Ville designed by architect Simon Maupin dominates Place des Terreaux. We happened to stop at Place des Terreaux several times over our three days stay in Lyon and admire its lavishly decorated facade with remarkable baroque painted stucco details. One more site that makes you "addicted to Lyon".

This building is in the centre of Lyon and is very impressive. It is beautifully built and definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

We were luck enough to be in Lyon for the rose festival, so the Hotelle de Villie was open for an exhibition of Rose displays. Outside there were really beautiful mini-tub gardens in different colour themes, but inside there were some of the most horrific and old fashioned Flower displays I have seen in a long time. I do not... More

Although only viewed from the outside, the Hotel de Ville, or Town Hall is a very impressive building and sits opposite the Theatre which has had a domed roof installed on top of its otherwise attractive facade.

this is a spectacular 17th century building right on the main square that everybody has to take several pictures of. We tried to go inside to look around but was stopped by a guard who said we had to go over to the main Visitors Center (about 5 miles away) and get tickets to get in. We went but were... More

We attended an event at the city hall and in the main hall. The artwork, gold gilding, chandeliers, and tapestries were amazing. Few get to see the insides of the building.

We were fortunate to visit during the Rose Festival in May and the courtyard was filled with roses. The entry halls had beautiful floral art designs using real roses. The outside is quite magnificent and ornate, trimmed in gold. Notice the round face in the opening above the clock. He is like the man in the moon.

Beautiful architecture well worth going to see. We had surprisingly warm and sunny weather for the time of year which only helped make everything seem beautiful!

Where I am staying is literally at the back door of this magnificent building, so to get anywhere I pass it. And everytime I have to look and review - it is splendid and the square is a hive of activity (with awesome fountain). You won't be able to miss stumbling across this façade when in Lyon.
