If you are one of those travelers that likes to stay fit and run up hills when you are in vacation, then you would definitely put on your running shoes and be prepared for a good climb at the Fourviere Hill. If not, and you are like me, just go from the Basilique and walk down calmly, taking time to... More

You can reach the summits of the Fouviere Hills by many different ways, and between them you get many different viewpoints of the area. The easy ways to reach the summits are by using the two funicular railways, but for the reasonably fit who have some time to savour better things, you miss much of the routes by being in... More

We took the tram up vs walked and it is well worth it to come up Fourviere Hill, the view of Lyon is impressive. One does not get a sense of how large the city actually is until up on the hill overlooking the city.

As panoramas go, this one is rather one-sided. The best part is the view over the city, with its two rivers and many bridges. It makes for a nice photograph. Much more interesting are the Roman remnants which drew us there.

The trip to the top of Fourviere hill is well worth it for the wonderful view across the city. Because of this hill, Lyon has grown mostly to the East. You can see the bridges across both rivers, but I wasn't able to see the "confluence" where the two rivers join. On a clear day, it's possible to view the... More

It's quite a climb, up to the basilica, but steps are provided and walks through parks and woodland, so well worth it. Do check out the amphitheatres too, brilliant.

Took the public transit funicular to the site. From atop this hill you have an amazing view of the Rhone and Soane Rivers and the historic city below

This trip is worth it for the view alone, over the rooftops of Old Lyon and the whole modern city. Don't miss the Gallo-Roman museum and have a look inside the basilica which, in my opinion, deserves a star for sheer ugliness. There's a cafe/restaurant next door with a terrace overlooking everything. To get there, if there's a long queue... More
