We took the funicular up and the stairs down. Our Australian relatives took the stairs both ways. Enjoyable walk down, through trees etc. The view from the top is magnificent. We were there on a particularly blustering and chilly day, so didn't linger. Will go back if weather and time permits and look around a bit more. All I can... More

If you like walking, this is worth it. We walked along the River Saon and then up the hill. I believe there is public transport but we did not use it. Fabulous view, historic areas and the interesting traboules. A good walk down through a different area of Lyon.

As the title says, take the Funicular up and walk down. Or if you're an unnatural sort of bragadocious fitness bore, take the stairs both ways. Whatever. I don't care! Either way, it's a lovely trip up. Dare I say a FUN(icular) trip up? And walking down some of the old stairway paths is beautiful too! Many a pretty photo... More

Ride the funicular up to the top of the hill to start your lesson in Gallic history transitioning to your investigation to the Notre Dame Basilique to the Roman Ruins working your way down the hill to St. Jean Place. Treat yourself to the best ice cream/gelato in Lyon by ending your history lesson at Place du Change and Nardone... More

This is the location of the Roman ruins and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. The area is over 1000 years old. Some of the narrow streets and houses are from many years ago. A very interesting area of Lyon to visit.

If you approach by foot take care to plan your route so you are sure to pass through some evocative quartiers of old Lyon. If you are not up to a very steep and long climb (and do be warned on this count) there is a railcar. The Basilica at the summit is about as imposing building as you will... More

perfect place to start your tour of Lyon and get your bearings, marvellous views and a short walk to vieux lyon via the beautiful rose gardens. Leave your car up here free and after your stroll take the Fernicular tram back up the hill.
