No trip to Lyon is complete without a visit to the top of Fourviere Hill, home to the beautiful Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourviere. Stand along the balustrade to gaze eastward over the city--you can just glimpse the ribbon of the Saone far below, and the left bank of the Presqu'ile. In the distance you'll see the countryside and a few... More

Beautiful view of whole city from there, amazing history about Virgin Mary, who saved the city of Lyon several times, the interior of basilica is one of the best I've ever seen, I am usually a little bit tired visiting churches - so many of them I can visit during touristic tour, but that one was not as many, mosaics... The view from the top is impressive and it gives you a good impression of the town. We had planned to go down through the rose garden but kind and sweating travellers told us that the gate was closed at the bottom.

Took the funicular up with our bus/metro/tram ticket. Incredible view of city of Lyon from hill, and basilica adorned with mosaics is not to be missed!

We tried both methods to get up the hill, the first time using the funicular which uses one metro ticket just to see what was there, the second time we walked and both methods are worthwhile, the second though is only for those used to walking and with time on their hands which this review is about. We spent an... More

While in Lyon I recommend buying the €5 day pass on the metro and use it to go up Fourviere Hill. Great views from the top. See the basilica and walk around to the roman amphitheatres. Then you can use it the rest of the day for as many trips as you like.

Wonderful views across the bend in the Rhone over the city. Use the funicular train to get to the top unless you are very fit.

La Montagne de Fourviere is much active then Vieux Lyon but it's also nice.I advise you to go to Vieux Lyon at day time and then to Fourviere at night.

It is a nice neighborhood of Lyon, there is a nice panoramic view of the city from the surroundings of fourviere cathedral, the roman theater ruins are few meters below the cathedral, which are very nice and gives an excellent idea of how it was in the Roman times, is like a trip over time. It is possible to come... More

Well worth the trip up - we came down on the cable car. Take the hop on hop off bus to see the sights but remember in winter it is not very often.
