It was a nice morning walk where you can get a fabulous view of Lyon on top of the hill. Maybe due to the timing during our visit, the place was not flooded with tourists. I could enjoy the tranquil and peace. So, suggest visit early.

Wonderful walk/hike up to the top. Beautiful views. A must for anyone visiting Lyon. Be prepared though, the incline towards the hill can be aggressive if walking from Gorge de Loup

Take the F (funicular fourvier) from the metro station Vieux Lyon line D to Fourvier station Cathedral Saint Jean (final stop). Visit the cathedral and then go to see the city from the big balcony in frond of the cathedral or on its right side. There is a small restaurant , a small cafe and a souvenir shop around. Then... Getting up the hill is easy by Funicular and quite a sight when you get there. The view of the city below is incredible and vast.

If you are one of those travelers that likes to stay fit and run up hills when you are in vacation, then you would definitely put on your running shoes and be prepared for a good climb at the Fourviere Hill. If not, and you are like me, just go from the Basilique and walk down calmly, taking time to... More

You can reach the summits of the Fouviere Hills by many different ways, and between them you get many different viewpoints of the area. The easy ways to reach the summits are by using the two funicular railways, but for the reasonably fit who have some time to savour better things, you miss much of the routes by being in... More

We took the tram up vs walked and it is well worth it to come up Fourviere Hill, the view of Lyon is impressive. One does not get a sense of how large the city actually is until up on the hill overlooking the city.
