Do not attempt to walk up, unless of course you are a local and accustomed to steep uphill climbs! Rather, take the funicular up (best to take the one on the right that discharges you at the Basilica) and then walk down through the park on the side of this steep escarpment. Start at the lovely park next to the... More

Taking the bus up the side of the mountain was well worth it. On the way up, we could see two ancient Roman arenas for drama and literature as well as a recent construction site that uncovered ancient wall art. At the top of the hill next to the church, the panorama was amazing. Able to see the Pencil, the... More

Hmm, the hill is so beautiful that I didn't mind all the steps and they are many! The Funiculars Fourvière are absolutely perfect.

Appreciated learning about the famous individuals from Lyon and walking up and down the Fourviere Hill. Guide was excellent and answered all questions with facts. The highlight of the tour and area was witnessing the process of printing designs on silk and learning how the process works today as well as in the past.

The trip with the funicular was a first one for me. The chapel is right outside the station. The roman ruins and amphitheatre are now used for shows. Decked up with lights and sound system the place was being readied for some music show.

After stopping at one of the Bouchon's for lunch I climbed up this steep Hill. It was quite a workout but was a great view of the city while at the top. It's cool to see Lyon from the top of the Cathedral and. It's like a mini "Le Sacre Coeur" and the mini "Eiffel Tower" stands right next to... More

There are beautiful views of the city and lots of history around and in the cathedral. We took the funicular up thank goodness. We did walk down and smiled at the people walking up.

For the less energetic, use the funicular to get excellent views over Lyon and to see the Cathedral. There is also a separate funicular, starting at the same point to visit the Roman remains.

Walk through old town and up the steps. Take in the view then walk down again. There are two sets of steps so if you feel energetic go up one and down the other. There's always the funicular! It's something you can do on your own without the tourists guides and the crowds.
