Aside from totally missing the site for the funicular and trudging up literally thousands of steps, we found the cathedral breathtakingly beautiful inside and the views from the overlook were spectacular.

I won't pretend that this isn't a stunningly beautiful church set amongst peaceful gardens with the most glorious views of Lyon because that would be a lie. However, early on you can see this isn't quite what it's pretending to be. You've be forgiven thinking this is an ancient church, that has perhaps weathered the centuries especially well, or been... If you do nothing else in Lyon - come here. If you are not immediately grabbed by the splendour then you are probably already dead. The views over the city, the plains and the Alps in the far far distance will live with me for a very long time. I have nothing more to say than that the ravings of... More

The mosaics here are absolutely beautiful, well, really the whole church is stunning. Very well maintained. This is definitely not a cathedral you want to miss. It is right down the road from the Gallo-Roman ruins.

Don't forget to visit the rosary gardens below. Apparently the metal roses embedded in the path are to show Catholics where to cite the rosary

The Basilique is very impressive especially the interior. Take the metro/elevator up unless you are very fit. Make an effort and find the Roman theater nearby. It's just as good if not better. The signs are terrible, I walked around in circle twice and found them eventually. Good luck and enjoy!

The mosaic pictures on the walls are breathtaking, each one telling a story, although we had no guide or book to enlighten us. Every part of the building is stunningly detailed. I will definitely go back for another look one day and would recommend it to every visitor to Lyon. Take the funicular up, walk down if the weather is... More

The basilic in itself is sometimes compared to a meringue... And it is true that it is quite white and 'fluffy'. The people of Lyon built it to give their thanks to the virgin Mary for having spared their town from the Preussian-French war. Apparently, money lacked in the end - so if you look up, on the facade, you... More

This cathedral, as with most cathedrals in France sits on a hill, and affords a fantastic view of the city of Lyon which lies on the valley below. A steep climb is required to get to the church, but there is also an alternate means to get to the top, by way of a tram that ferries passengers to and... More

My review is pretty much simple: spectacular!!!! the view that goes from ages from the terrace of the notre dam is just magnificent 😄 the church itself is very beautiful from the outside and from the inside (mostly gold insides, astonishing), free entrance, but during the mass you cannot walk around it once inside, amd you cannot take photos ,which is the...
