The exterior does not give the expression that the interior is so beautiful, not least the ceilings. Wonderful wall decorations makes a visit there very worthwhile.

Both the main basilica and the crypt are of interest. The mosaics are impressive as is the vaulted roof. It is good for anyone who is disabled because of the closeness to the funicluar and the good elevator between the two floors.

Great treasure full of history. A very big structure with a very nice gated village feel. If you're going to take in the site try walking up the hill. It will be a challenge but you'll absorb the feel for the neighborhood as the vista of Lyon unfolds before you. Besides, once you reach the summit (it will feel a... More

Stunning. Up the funicular to the cathedral, which is spectacular externally, and sparkling with gilt internally. The views from the terraces on either side. Then go to the Roman bit and museum.

There are two ways of reaching the Basilica of Fouviere; a funicular train or on foot but it is a steep climb. A way of making the most of the visit is to go up to the basilica by the funicular train and go back down on foot and stopping at the Roman ruins along the way. The basilica itself... More

In the prime position overlooking Lyon with magnificent views all the way to the Alps, the Basilica is a wonderful building with a grand exterior and stunning interior. The Crypt and Chapels are worth investigation and we were lucky to be able to attend a free evening concert given by students of the Conservatorium just down the road. It was... More

The basilique is a must-see in Lyon. The building itself is one of the nicest church I have seen and the way that it is situated on the top of the hill means that you get magnificent views of the city. To get there, you can take the funiculaire which is a nice adventure and you can also get back... More

The cathedral is easy to see from the center of Lyon so I figured that it would be easy to find my way up the hill. There are signs for cars driving up the hill as to how to get there but no signs for those who want to walk up or take the Tram that I read about. I... More
