Take the funicular to the top, no need to reach it on foot … exasperating and tired so that you can’t enjoy it as soon as you are there. You can still get the nice city view if you stroll downhill (much easier) after your visit. Enter the cathedral from the bottom crypt section for the comparatively “simple” chappel, and... More

it's the height of your experience of the fourviere hills--and that is where your best view is--it's right at the top of the funicular

This is a relatively large basilica. I have seen so many over the years, that this is merely just another. However, it is an impressive building and the views of Lyon just behind the basilica are magnificent.

Easy to locate. I found the walk up the hill a challenge in mid July with the heat but I aren't an active person. The architecture was incredible inside and out of the cathedral however it was very busy with tourists. Signs ask for no cameras but everyone ignores them, a little disrespectful considering this is a still functioning cathedral... More

This historic Basilica is located at the top of the towering escarpment overlooking the City of Lyon. From the park next to it you can see for miles and miles. And on a clear day you can see all the way to Mont Blanc and the French Alps! It is a must see and situated about three blocks (perhaps half... More

We took a guided city tour of Lyon which took us to the Place Bellecour with its equestrian statue of Louis XIV, Bartholdi's fountain in Place des Terreaux and the town hall. We then travelled to Fourviere, part of historic region designated a Unesco World Heritage site. It's known as the Hill of Prayers. The white Basilica of Notre-Dame, definately... More

Beautiful, inspiring, rivals the Basiliques in Rome Worth the trip up the hill for the view. Wish it was closer to home so I could attend Mass there.

You really should consider hiking to the Basilique ! It is worth the hike and the view you get from here is just amazing! The basilique in itself is just wonderful and gigantic.

It is hard to put into words the beauty of this extraordinary basilica - for starters its location in incomparable standing high above the glorious city of Lyon. There is an upper and lower chapel. Both are large beautiful spaces. However the upper section is stunning. Magnificently decorated walls and ceilings and rich and colourful stained glass windows. It is... More

Not being religious, just tourists was well worth seeing this remarkable building. The Architecture is out of this world with plenty to see. Seemed very strange to allow tourists to look around and take pictures whilst some people are praying but a good experience all round. The walk is a bit of a trek which can't imagine everyone will enjoy... More
