The Basilique is fairly modern, been built at the end of the XIX century, and it offers a good visit to both the faithful and the sightseer. It is accessible without any tickets. There is a bar on the grounds and free toilets, and a free pic-nic site, close to the terrace that overlooks an outstanding view of Lyon. If... More

Lovely trip, beautiful church and the surrounding area. From the hill on which the Basilique is located you can have a great view on a whole city.

The Basilica, located at the top of the Fourviere hill, was dedicated to Virgin Mary and built between 1872 and 1884. The inside is decorated with golden mosaics, sculptures and stained glass windows. To reach the Basilica, we walked up to the hill, but if you prefer you can get the funicular. Spectacular view not to be missed.

We liked the view but the church isn´t very old itself. You´ll get there easily by a subway line. It´s a nice place to visit, anytime...

One of the most elaborate churches i've seen so far, truly breathtaking with dominating golds and blues from the inside. If you take the tram up the hill, it is no fun. Walk up and enjoy the beautiful view. The Roman ruins is close to the basillique are magnificent.

This basilica can be seen from virtually anywhere in Lyon because of its fantastic location at the top of the Fourviere hill. From a distance it looks old but it turns out to be a late 19th century job. Although impressive to look at from a distance, inside it can't decide what period of architecture it wants to follow and... More

This church is built between 1872-1884 with a very modern design as a castle/church in memory of Maria. The building has been done in such a way that it looks as if the church is more then 400 years old. If you have a change to do the tower tour [starts at 11:00 for Euro 6,= pp] you will have... More

I'm not usually one for visiting churches and cathedrals but this was breathtaking - the inside was as spectacular as the view over Lyon. Worth a trip even if churches aren't usually your thing.

Perched on top of the hill overlooking the whole city you can easily see how defensible and majestic this place is. Take the funicular with your metro pass to the top of the hill or find the windy steps all the way to the top. The cathedral is beautiful but still not in the top 10 of the EU but... More

The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere sits on top of the hill of Fourviere, on the site of ancient Roman ruins that lay buried beneath its crypt. The view from Fourviere of the city of Lyon is one of the most incredible views of any city. On a clear day you can see the white snow atop the French Alps... More
