The external facades can be viewed best from the other side of the river Rhone but to appreciate the architecture of this amazing place of worship you need to get up close and personal. The exterior is delightful, the main body of the church is amazing and the large crypt is also well worth a visit.

We got the tour bus up the hill and got off, takes an hour or so to look round there's unmissable views of the city from the view point and it's a must see, not busy at all either.

View from the church overlooking the city is impressive. Interior of the relatively new church equally impressive. Lots of colorful wall mosaics. Ceiling is over the top ( ha, ha funny) awe inspiring. Yeah, this ain't the Vatican but still a wonder. Take the funicular up, but do walk down the staircases to vieux Lyon.

This Basilica is a truly grand building and is visible from all parts of the city as it sits on top of a hill. You can view the city from here and can see the Alps on a clear day. You could walk up there but it is a huge hill and not for the feint hearted. You can also... More

This basilica is situated on top of a hill overlooking Lyon. Great view of the city. The church itself is not very old, but beautifully decorated with mosaics. Nice walk down through park with I. A. Rose garden.

The church itself was beautiful but the view from the rear is spectacular. We ate at a small restaurant around the corner and had the best escargots ever.

Lyon is a city with so much history, and this Basilica on top of the hill above Vieux Lyon is a treasure. Try to go early in the morning before the tourist invasion, and enjoy the ride on the funicular which will bring you right in front of the Basilica. You can easily spend one hour inside and visiting the... More

We went twice to this basilica - the first time to have a look at the amazing view and inside the church. The second time we went to Mass on the Feast of the Ascension. As Catholics this Mass was an inspiring experience. Not only because of the Mass itself but also because of the building. The architecture and paintings... More

We travelled to this site on the Hop On Hop Off Bus. It is an extraordinary church that is highly decorative and with an interesting history important to Lyon. The view over Lyon from this site is magnificent. It is well worth a visit. It is perched high on the hill but there is a metro stop nearby and we... More

Go by the funicular as it is quite a climb. Beautiful inside and out, be sure to see the mosaic of the road to Santiago de Compestela. Statue of Pope John Paul and view over the city.
