An amazing area of Lyon, although some areas are almost as if they are deserted completely, with shops empty and gone. At times it felt like we were the only people in the areas. The city could do more to liven up this area and bring back shops to bring life back to it.

The old city of Lyon is a great place to wander around. There's plenty to see, and lots of character and history. There are many places to eat here, although many are quite 'touristy', so do some 'window shopping' first. Easy to spend a day here.

A very good advice to those who planned to visit this old town when you are in the Bellcour square is to have a feel of the directions that you would take. It is a very short distance and is approx 500 meters from the Tourist Information office in Bellcour. I made a mistake and discovered even more interesting events... More

Old Lyon is compact and not as initially striking as its UNESCO World Heritage Site status might suggest. It's an intact old town with narrow streets and period buildings. Views down towards the river are especially good. Lyon is a sprawling city and you'd be well advised to stay in the old town close to the river or on the... More

I really enjoyed this traditional part of the town- it is also the only place which is not dead on a Sunday. The minature museum in this part of the town is also worth a visit. Be weary of eating in the traditional 'buchons' in this part of town.

Such fun wandering around the Old Town, peering in shop windows, comparing menus at the many restaurants, and traversing the many traboules. Don't go too early; we arrived at 10.30am and hardly anything was open. The ancient buildings were really worth seeing.

I wish we had planned more time for exploring.. It was a side trip from Paris and was so worth visiting. I found it an enchanting town. Loved the history and ancient buildings. Wonderful restaurants. A ride on the river was a great way to get an overview of the city.

Rue st Jean is amazing. Honey shop with fabulous products and honey of course, Olivers &co. for oils and you can have a tasting! We never thought a tasting of oils could be so good. Wonderful artisan ice creams, every flavour you could imagine, and so much more to discover wont spoil it just go to vieux Lyon

Vieux Lyon is the historic heart of the city and is well worth a visit. Visit the traboules, the gothic cathedrals, stroll the cobblestone streets, eat ice cream on the river and enjoy great food. It can be a bit busy on weekend summer days with tourist, but is much quieter at other times.
