But we did go in March. Bet its heaving in the peak season. Lots of architecture to admire and quaint little alleyways. Shops not too touristy.

Lots of restaurants and small shops. We enjoyed the wide choice of menu options at good prices. Look for the doors to the granules and wander in to see the old passageways.

A very easy place to get to and get around. No matter where you are in the city, you are no more than a 20 mi ute walk to Vieux Lyon. Besides the city is very flat which makes it a perfect place to walk. I stayed across the Rhone River so it was a 5 minute walk. Once there,... More

The Vieux Lyon is beautiful, but you shouldn't spend too much in it. If you want to have lunch, your favourite place will probably be the Laurencin - other Bouchons in the district really aren't worth the money. A better solution is to cross a bridge and find yourself near Bellecour, where the restaurants are generally not tourist traps, less... More

Thanks to the foresight of Andre Malraux and like minded Lyonnais, this amazing quarter was spared the developers sledgehammer. Every street is full of charming architectural surprises, great restaurants, hotels and specialist shops.

Cobbled streets that snake up the hill and are lined with some interesting shops and appetising restaurants and cafés.

Vieille Ville in Lyon is the big “Must Do” thing for tourists. « Le Vieux Lyon est le quartier médiéval et Renaissance de Lyon. C'est l'un des quartiers les plus vastes concernant cette période médiévale et Renaissance (avec Venise ) qui est encore resté intact jusqu'à nos jours. » Frankly! Unimpressed. Perhaps tolerable in the Middle Ages just after the... More

I was saddened to read certain parts of this beautiful & vibrant section of Lyon was destroyed in WW2. You could have fooled me. Today it is bristling with life. Everywhere you look you see people from all over the world eating, shopping, sightseeing, or just strolling about. A few things you don't want to miss would be the Roman... More
