This is one of the must-sees, even in mid-Winter. From the cathedral northwards is a series of bouchons, cafes and other buildings of interest.

Not extensive, but intensive. Posh shops, a wide range of restaurants from pricey to cheap and good, & bars. Guignol museum (municipalite) a must-visit.

Lyon is a wonderful city clearly divided into 3 main parts by the rivers Saone and Rhone. Old Lyon is THE part in which to stay. It has the historic buildings, churches, laneways, traboules, markets, galleries, patisseries, boulangeries, etc.,etc.and easily accessed efficient public transport, although walking into the other parts of Lyon is no problem with the many bridges across... We have to question what tourism does to good places. Vieux Lyon is beautiful and wondrous but it is also ruined by an over-abundance of mediocre businesses and poorly executed fake France experiences. How many crepe stands can one street support? Did you come to Lyon to eat at Subway? This little stretch of history is part of a sacred... More

Lyon is a very beautiful city with lost of history. It is knownn for its silk work in the 1800s.It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will want to visit the Basilica of Fourveie, with beautiful interior where everything is cone in mosaice time, the walls, murals and floor. Perched at the top of a hill you have... More

This area of Lyon has the narrow streets, old buildings, many restaurants with outside eating, many shops to explore and historic sites to see. The feel is authentic France from many years ago. It is easy to get to via the Metro or walking from the center of Lyon. We stayed in the middle of this area & really enjoyed... More

Vieux Lyon has an old world charm and beautiful cobblestone streets with nice old buildings to match. It had three churches and a cathedral at the top of the hill which is accessible by funicular at a very reasonable rate. This is a great place to spend a good chunk of your time in Lyon. We stayed at an apartment... More

Forget the words tourist trap. Sure there are plenty of restaurants and attractions that cater to visitors here, but unlike the Latin Quarter in Paris, this area has all of the old world charm without the jaded 'tourist trappy' shops and menus that fleece tourists and make you feel cheated. In fact, until relatively recently, this neighborhood was just funky... More
