Going up to Bastille is a classical tour we recommend to all people visiting Grenoble to enjoy the view, profit of the nice restaurants close-by, and try the famous cable-car. For resident is a good habit to enjoy a sunday afternoon or just to stay fit climbing up in many different way (by foot, by MB, by ferrata, etc.)

After a short trip using the cable car over the river, or a walk along rather steep pathways, you end up in a fort dominating directly the city. You have one of the best views on the city that are possible, which is well worth the effort and two nice restaurants to restore your strength, but the place itself is... More

I highly recommend the walk up the steep mountainside to the Bastille, but start at the beautiful garden park near the "Porte de France" adjacent to the D1075 bridge across the L'Isere River. It's the most scenic way to get up to the Bastille. Of course, you can take the funicular, but what's the fun in that? Not a lot... More

A really spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and the city, plus a few walks that can fill an hour or two.

Great views of the city and surrounding alps. An excellent museum of the Alpine regiment. A good restaurant. The ability to roam at will and towalk further up the hill from thre citadel. You can drive up by car but using the téléphérique is part of the experience.

We went on a Sunday and everything was closed except the restaurant. Good view of Grenoble and the Alpes.

- The workers at the tourism info center speak English, French, and Spanish. - Nice bird-eye's view of the city. - Very windy - Rich in history, however history is rather monotone, as history is mostly filled with small regional conflicts unlike Paris.
