We visited the Bastille whilst in Grenoble last month, we took the cable car up which gave us some spectacular views over the city and was certainly less strenuous that walking up! Once at the top there is a lovely restaurant with a terrace overlooking the city and from up on the ramparts you get a fantastic view of the... More

We took the gondola to the Bastille. Great views and explanation a out the local geology. We then walked to the summit where there is a memorial to alpine troops and spectacular panoramic views. We walked down to the town which involved lots of steps! Apparently there is a path down too.

We walked up, and the good thing about the walk is that there are so many different paths to choose from with great views at every rest spot. Les boules were also fun to ride in.

We drove up the mountain, the Bastille itself is a relatively small fort on the very top of the mountain. The view from there is literally breathtaking and there is a lot of space to have walks, take picnic, there is even a restaurant. We didnt go on the Funiculaire, which goes down from the mountain, over the river and... More

I'm terrified of heights, so the funicular ride to the top was a little tense for me. On the way back down, a little girl kept saying the word "tomber" to her mother so she, too, was afraid of the darned thing falling! It made me laugh that I was as scared as the three-year old. The view from the... More

You can take the cable car from alongside the river up to the Bastille or walk up the hill. We chose the cable car as the tickets were included in the room rate at our hotel. From the top of the Bastille, there are excellent views over the city of Grenoble.

If you have time to spare and like cable rides this is for you. I like the cable ride the view from the top was super but there was nothing else there besides and overpriced cafe and a souvenir shop.
