We stopped in Grenoble to take a rest break on our long drive down to the Pyrenees. Thanks to a quick consultation with Tripadvisor, we spent a great couple of hours up at the Bastille. The kids loved the relatively short but steep cable car journey up, over the river. Some great walks, a small but interesting exhibit about French... More

A very old monument at Grenoble. Use the Téléphérique to reach it, and enjoy the great view of Grenoble whiling going up and down. Great place to walk, after the visit, have lunch at the restaurant up there. A must visit when you go to Grenoble

Numerous visits and we are still peeling back the layers of this wonderful city. Take plenty of time to explore its treasures - you won't be disappointed. Let the photos inspire you to take the funicular to the Bastille. The small cable car pods seat six and it's like being squeezed into a sardine can. However, it's worth the discomfort... More

We took the gondola to the Bastille. Great views and explanation a out the local geology. We then walked to the summit where there is a memorial to alpine troops and spectacular panoramic views. We walked down to the town which involved lots of steps! Apparently there is a path down too.

We walked up, and the good thing about the walk is that there are so many different paths to choose from with great views at every rest spot. Les boules were also fun to ride in.

We drove up the mountain, the Bastille itself is a relatively small fort on the very top of the mountain. The view from there is literally breathtaking and there is a lot of space to have walks, take picnic, there is even a restaurant. We didnt go on the Funiculaire, which goes down from the mountain, over the river and... More

You can take the cable car from alongside the river up to the Bastille or walk up the hill. We chose the cable car as the tickets were included in the room rate at our hotel. From the top of the Bastille, there are excellent views over the city of Grenoble.
