It's always nice to arrive at Lac Blanc for a drink, a meal or a dip in the water on a hot day. The walk up from Col des Montets is a classic and from the other direction taking the cable car and then chairlift to l'Index and then walking to Lac Blanc takes in some great mountain scenery. We... A stiff hike, but well-worth the effort. The views from the balcony of the refuge are sensational, as is their gratin Savoyarde, the best in Chamonix. Coming up the back way via les lacs des Cheserys on the ladders is a hoot. Suggest doing it early in the morning to avoid huge crowds on a sunny day.

If you are up for a good hike and don’t want to spend your euros on lifts the best way to Lac Blanc (2352m) starts at Col des Montets. We drove to Argentière from Chamonix for a quick breakfast at a pastry shop and picked up some baguettes, salami and cheese for lunch. Then we continued on D1506 to Col... More

One of the best day hikes I've ever done. Cable car from La Flegere was closed so I hiked from Argentiere to Lac Blanc and went down to Tre La Champ. Superb mountain views of the Mont Blanc and surrounding area as well as of the Chamonix valley. Highly recomended.

We got the Index cable car and walked across to Mont Blanc. Unfortunalty it started to rain just before we reached Lac Blanc. The Lac was still stunning, even if only for a few minutes before we hiked back to La Flagere cable car in the rain. A stunning hike with great views.

My all time favourite hike. Avoid in August when its crowded. If you take the lift up to Flegere expect a long line. If you are fit walk up from Grand Montets (need a car though). Best times of year are Sept/Oct. 6 hour return if you are fit :) When you get to Lac Blanc keep going up and... More

We went up the mountain using 2 cable cars, La Flerge and Index then walked about 2 hours to the lake. Excellent view of Mont Blanc and that mountain range.

I cannot say Lac Blanc is amazingly beautiful but the road there definitely is. Worth your time and efforts, as it is not an easy hike with young children and a back carrier is advisable under five years of age. Big time.

The hike to Lac blanc from l'Index cable cart is not the easiest. Prepare well with hiking boots, and warm clothing. The weather can turn easily here. The Lac, the Hike and the views are all worth it! Enjoy!
