Do take the time if you are staying in Chamonix to do the walk from the town to Lac Cornu. We went on a beautiful sunny day in October and despite being freezing my son took a swim. It was well worth the 2 hour walk.

We hiked from the Plan de Praz station (first leg of the lifts leading to Brévent). It is quite entertaining to see the paragliders take off from just above the lift station. The hike up to the lake is easy on a good path, but it is uphill, of course. After Lac Cornu one can continue to Lacs Noirs and... More

Whether you go via Flegere and Combe de la Gliere or via Planpratz and the Col du Lac Cornu, I chose the former, the journey is exciting among grand rock scenery. To sit and have lunch overlooking Lac Cornu on a sunny day is sheer bliss with the knowledge that you have a great onward journey to come.

The walk to Lac Cornu is a great walk if you don't want to wait for long ques with tourists. You can either walk from the bottom of Chamonix or take the cable car up to Planpras where the walk begins. There is a lot of wildlife on this trail and the view of the Mont Blanc massif is beautiful... More

You can hike to Lac Cornu from the lift at Planpraz. It's definitely one of the quieter trails, especially in early morning and late evening. As this trail extends into the natural reserve you will notice lots of wildlife so keep your eyes peeled.
