This area is very hard and very exhausting. Take some food and drinks with you and go with a guide. be safe and tell others where you are going. Very hard for snowboarders in some parts. BUT then for the experienced and the fit it is absolutely fantastic. Well worth the effort.

went up before xmas, access to the glacier was restricted, bummer, was still interesting to go up and see the views, not much else.

We took the train up, and walked up the beautiful valley. A path leads you up, and is easy to follow. Not to hard to walk. We ended our trip where the glacier starts (takes about 30 minutes). Great view.

The Vallee Blanche is the most famous glacier in the area and rightly so it is spectacular. We walked along from the Midi half way cable car--a high route on good paths and then looked over at the ice flows. The train is fun back to the valley. Always worth a trip if in Chamonix.

A short train journey up the side of the valley brings you up to the Mer de Glace. There is a café in the station as well as one with a panoramic terrace from where you can admire the stunning views before making the descent to the glacier. There is a cable car to take you some of the way... More

Now you see it and within 20 years you won't and the rate the glacier has been receding. It is an effort to visit now but worth the effort to see it before it is forever gone.

Spend half a day there and you will have one of the best nature experiences this area has to offer! It is so so beautiful. It is only around 2 km up but the view is fantastic. A train will take you there easily within max 30 mins. I went in the summertime and the colours were amazing. I can... More

Avoid the rush...get out early to avoid the queues. There are 420 steps down and back up. It is worth the effort. However this has made us think about global warming.....thaat out teenage children may not be zble to visit this wonderful sight again.

Hurry up guys! In 10 years there might be no more ice!!! I remember being there 40 years ago when the glacier was still 50 m thicker. Now it looks as if it will disappear soon, what a pitty!
