The thrill of a lifetime

I wasn't quite good enough for this run but my rope-mates helped me get to the end. I advise you to be young, strong, and excellent off-piste, none of which I am.

There is a real desire to be the 'highest' or have the 'most vert', but really it's all guff, if you have to climb down 100 meters or the last 1000 meters is closed. Plus if that is all you can do in one day, it's pretty minimal to do 1600 meters over a whole day. Usually I can manage... More

Had a fantastic experience skiing La Valle Blanche with a guided group through ESF! Breathtaking views and also interesting to see just how much the glacier has shrunk over the past ~30 years. I’m a good (but not great) US east coast skier—comfortable on all trail levels (though not a fan of moguls—especially since they are typically just knee-pounding ice... More

I skied the Vallee Blanche with a group of friends in horrible ice and wet snow, totally and technically out of my depth, yet loved it. You need a head for heights right from the outset, followed by a strong need to listen to your guide who should keep you clear of all but the hidden crevice. As my off... More

Le Vallee Blanche is for advantage level skies. It is not without a professional ski guide or guide d'haute montagne that you do this trip. It is just so amazingly beautiful.

This area is very hard and very exhausting. Take some food and drinks with you and go with a guide. be safe and tell others where you are going. Very hard for snowboarders in some parts. BUT then for the experienced and the fit it is absolutely fantastic. Well worth the effort.

We took the train up, and walked up the beautiful valley. A path leads you up, and is easy to follow. Not to hard to walk. We ended our trip where the glacier starts (takes about 30 minutes). Great view.

The Vallee Blanche is the most famous glacier in the area and rightly so it is spectacular. We walked along from the Midi half way cable car--a high route on good paths and then looked over at the ice flows. The train is fun back to the valley. Always worth a trip if in Chamonix.
