Interesting pieces of art here. Take some time to enjoy this visit. Also, what caught my attention was some pictures of mermaids and mermaid bones, discovered by the lake. Part of the story is true, part of it is fiction, but very interesting anyway.

A very interesting Chateaux with great exhibitions and interesting architecture. I did reads few TripAdvior reviews after our visit but was quite surprised because I didn't have the negative experiences as listed. I did not expect a furnished castle because the literature clearly states that after a time of disrepair the building was made a museum in the 1950s. It... More

As we had limited time we only visited the second part of the Musee; thinking the former prison might be interesting for our teenage and adult kids. Well, we went through the whole thing and all there was were pictures and descriptions of the development of Annecy. There was really nothing interesting about the history or the people here! I... We went on a holiday to Switzerland, and it was suggested by a travel agent in Switzerland, to take a short drive into France, to see the Chateau in Annecy. I am so glad we took his advice! It was just amazing to decend down the cobbled streets into the low set town! The quaint OLD buildings were fascinating. Restuarants... More

Very disappointing this "castle". I was hoping to see rooms furnished "as it used to be", but there is absolutely nothing inside. The rooms are all empty and are used for cultural exhibits. I was unlucky enough to visit while there was a "modern art" exhibit going on... and it was awful, ugly and made no sense in that place.... More

Great town view but too much art and less about the castle and history. If you are interested in art this would be interesting. For us we wanted to see more of the castle.

Listed as a historic monument in 1959, Annecy Castle was the residence of the Counts of Geneva in the 13th and 14th centuries. Over the following two centuries, new construction work gave the castle this unique appearance, a summarised version of medieval defensive architecture and elegance inspried by castles in Ile de France. Abandoned as a residence in the 17th... More

The castle, which was long used as an army barracks, was saved from destruction after the Second World War. It is now a beautifully restored medieval castle and home to three museum collections: traditional Savoy folk art and furniture along with some archeological finds from the area, a modern art museum, and a museum of lake ecology. I have never... More

This is located in the jail in the city centre and I was pleasantly surprised to find all sorts of interesting history about the chateau and region. Cool and worth it.

The castle sits on the top of a hill overlooking the old town. There is parking available right outside if you cannot walk the hill. Great to look around and provides stunning views over the town below. Entry fee is reasonable it's only a few euros they even have a student rate. Well worth a visit!
