Spend time doing something else and don't go there! My friend and I were visiting Annecy and went to the Gorge de Fier and the Chateau. The Gorge was great but when we arrived at the Chateau for the tour, the woman behind the counter at the entrance (gift shop) was on the phone for 17 minutes (we counted). We... More

The french don't want the world to know about it....There is no desire to accommodate non-french speakers. They hand you this binder with a few words in english for each room, while the old geezer guide tells you this will not be very interesting for you, then talks a lot and makes jokes for the french audience. It makes you... More

Oh my goodness. What to do on a rainy day near Annecy? Well, unless you are a fluent French speaker and DON'T have children with you, give this Chateau a miss. There is an amazing collection of artefacts from all over the world, but the extremely limited info available in English and the cramped displays do not do it justice.... More

The place is perfect but the excursion is not accompanied by English translation. The number of visiting rooms is very limited so you have to rely on your fantasy.

We arrived right at 2 pm (opening time) and were just in time for a guided tour...en francais. It would have been great if we spoke French. The booklet they gave us to follow along wasn't nearly as detailed as I would have liked. The woman giving the tour liked to talk, and it was a bit awkward because we... More

After visiting the Gorges du Fier and have a nice lunch at the little restaurant close to the castle we decided to visit this one and we really enjoyed it. It's very well preserved and maintained (it's private) and the visit which lasts 1.5 hour takes you trough different rooms showing great collections of the late owner (the place belongs... More

There are many beautiful castles around Annecy, and this one is no exception. It makes for a very nice day trip from Annecy, if you do not wish to stay in the city center. It would probably be a good idea to combine visiting Chateau de Montrottier and Gorges du Fier, at the same time, as they are literally side... More

They have tours from 10-12 and later in the afternoon. You join a group and they walk you around and tell you all the history. It's back to the 13th cent. They have lots of weapons, porceline, and art. Unfortunately no pictures are allowed. The climb up to the top of the tower is long but it has a great... More
