Charming, but there are better old towns in a variety of ports on the Med and southern Europe. Do your walking in the early morning before the town wakes up. Mont Faron is way over rated. Market worth a visit and food break.

Old town is worth to see. City center is full of beautiful buildings with green and blue shutters. City is not crowded, rather quiet. Yo can wander a lot between cosy streets, fountains and restaurants.

Many parts of Nice then to close early but not Old Town, plenty of shops and restaurants to visit even on Sunday!!! (Sunday everything is closed in Nice) close walk to the beach and just lots of fun. Be careful with your belongings

We visited Toulon on a Med cruise. After reading discouraging reviews of the excursions to Marsealles and St Tropez, we decided to just stay in the port city. While we were not expecting much after reading reviews of Toulon, what a waste of a port stop. It was a Saturday and the market was open in Old Town. First off,... More

There's something about finding an older area of town. Everything is more picturesque and timeless beauty surrounds you. Buildings here are gorgeous and the locals seem very proud to live there. Lots of bars and cafes to enjoy We have a cracking afternoon walking around and buying some trinkets from the local shops. Well worth a visit if you're nearby... More

Gorgeous weather allowed us to spend a full day around the old town. There is an adorable little "train" tour which was hilariously good fun seeing the sights of the town. Would highly recommend it.

People were friendly here. We had heard so much negative feedback concerning the French and their hospitality but we met people who assisted us with directions, people who willingly walked to show us the monuments and recommended eating places. Loved Toulon !

Good for coffee shops and wandering but quiet after rugby, had trouble finding the post game hot spots, will have to visit again to find them!

We have travelled along the Mediterranean coast of France from Perpignan to Menton, and Toulon old town is up there with the best of them. All the clichés are there, the narrow streets, the bars, bakers and restaurants, the markets, the crumbling palaces, the churches, the tree-lined streets and squares. You can eat or drink for half the price of... More

To see all the sights of the town it is a good idea to take a tour of the town by the mini train within easy location on the marina this is around 45-60 minute trip but take you around streets and a full tour of surrounding sights and also commentary in french and english, do enjoy the experience.
