People were friendly here. We had heard so much negative feedback concerning the French and their hospitality but we met people who assisted us with directions, people who willingly walked to show us the monuments and recommended eating places. Loved Toulon !

Good for coffee shops and wandering but quiet after rugby, had trouble finding the post game hot spots, will have to visit again to find them!

We have travelled along the Mediterranean coast of France from Perpignan to Menton, and Toulon old town is up there with the best of them. All the clichés are there, the narrow streets, the bars, bakers and restaurants, the markets, the crumbling palaces, the churches, the tree-lined streets and squares. You can eat or drink for half the price of... More

To see all the sights of the town it is a good idea to take a tour of the town by the mini train within easy location on the marina this is around 45-60 minute trip but take you around streets and a full tour of surrounding sights and also commentary in french and english, do enjoy the experience.

We stopped here on a cruise and we were totally dissapointed by the town. It was dirty and other than lots of cafes there was nothing to do. We all felt it was a waste of a day and cannot recommend it to anyone.

I was disappointed in this cruise stop. The market in old town was 99% food which was great for the locals but not good the cruise passengers. The coffee shops where filled with men and we didn't feel welcome. Not a place I would enjoy returning.

I visited Toulon by myself, enjoyed my lunch at the one side of the harbor, which did not impressed me to say the truth and afterwards I visited the old town. As the sunlight went off, the colours of the old buildings created a magical atmosphere. I felt a magic combo of peace, sunset colours and eventually music, since in... More

Strolling through Toulon's Old Town area is like stepping into the town during the WWll era. Replete with bullet holes still visible in the walls of the buildings makes one think the war just ended recently. Also on the building's windows, actually on the inside facing out, are photos of the building's damage, even some of complete destruction during the... More

The phrase 'South Of France' brings to my imagination chic and classy. Not Toulon. Although on a Sunday there is a marvellous fresh food market until 1pm for the locals the town itself appeared grubby and shabby. The lamp posts were dressed with beautiful hanging baskets of flowers, but this was the only part of my visit that was easy... More
