This is a really nice area in Marseille with great views and lined with lots of little restaurants that are great for people watching.

We had museums listed and other cultural 'musts' but the weather was so good (in the early 20's all day) we decided just to wander around the Old Port and take in what must be the last of summer. It did feel odd with a Christmas market and summery warmth!

We visited Marrce in 2012 on a tour by Royal Caribbean. As part of our tour we visited the church that had been part of the liberation during world war 11. The market & old port. The views are fantastic & if I were fortunate enough to live there would shop in the marked daily. The port busy in morning... More

The city is too run down ,houses have not been repainted for centuries and not well looked after ,the streets are quite dirty from garbage ,papers ,chewing gum and dogs poo.....well this is South of France ! But there is also another South of France where people care about what they have and don't always dirt the streets .The old... More

The Old Port is definitely a pulse of the city. In the am, there are fish stands near the water...gone by noon, however. Fun watching all the dressed up entertainers...fun to walk around...nice shops...lots of boats and a view of the cathedral across the water...

Must spend time here so much to see, boats in Marine, fish being sold of the boats, restaurants, cafes, the hop on off bus, petit train or just people watch while having a drink.

Had a spontaneous 24 hours in marseille! Loved every minute of it. Visited because of an expat blog I've been asked to write about life in France. Marseille is really beautiful and this port is no exception. Street entertainers in November deserve a medal!

Very easy way to spend a fine afternoon; lots to look at - fish market, soap stalls, break dancers. Very scenic with the marina & classic buildings, plenty of places for refreshment. Warnings about pickpockets but nothing evidential.
