When I mentioned to a client that I was going to Nice, he told me that his father was from a nearby village called Villefranche-sur-Mer and suggested we visit. We decided to drive there to see what it was like. As you approach it from Nice, your first siting is from high up overlooking the entire harbor. You absolutely must... More

Interesting to see the oceanographic institute, the maritime "museum" with maps and memorabilia of sailing, the boats in the marina, etc. Always lovely being near the water, seeing the citadel from a distance...

Its worth following the path round the coast to get away from the maddening crowds and enjoy a quiet drink at "La joyeuse Balon" or the "Jolly Whale". You can watch all the boats in the Marina, or the old area where they repair them. Great to explore a bit.

We were here on a cruise. Most people took themselves to Cannes or Nice. We instead explored the town and then had a long, leisurely lunch on a sunny terrace overlooking the old harbor.

Hills are are a bit much - the beach is quite nice and the water is amazingly clear. Food in all the local places pretty good in some spots and really good in others. You have look around a bit.

The harbor and beach at Ville-Franche sur Mer is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! I saw the beach while driving on the highway on my way to Monte-Carlo. I immediately pulled over and began taking pictures. The water is amazingly clear and the beach is picturesque. The town is gorgeous, set at the bottom of... More

This is a real idilic picture postcard town. The harbour is over looked by many cafes and resturants. Running up from the harbour is the picturesque old town. Quaint old buildings line the streets. There are no tacky souvenier shops or noisy bars. This is a beautiful, peaceful and up market town to visit.
