We read about this place and its creator before we came to Vence. You need a bit of context as no one is there to explain it to you. Matisse was recovering from an operation and on a wheelchair when designing this place- he did most of it from his tiny hotel room in Nice. And he wasn't Catholic at... More

In re-visiting this wonderfully intimate chapel, I am stunned by how gracious the nuns are [9 live there] and how perfect the size of this tiny chapel is! The colors are the Provencal blue and yellow and they capture the light as it enter through the stained glass window. I highly recommend a visit and it is a fun [though... More

Matisse, a man who wanted to leave more than his life's work behind, found the supreme expression in building and decorating this chapel for the Dominican Sisters. It is totally awe inspiring in its execution; the colors and their effect on the chapel, not to mention his design of every artifact to be used in celebrating the mas, are must-sees... More

This a small jewel of a modern chapel a 20 minute walk from Vence town square. Decorated by Matisse it is a thank you to his nurse for surviving cancer. One side wall and the one behind the altar are stained glass in vibrant green, blue and yellow through which you get a glimpse of the countryside. The altar of... More

Matisse regarded this as one of his major achievements and it is certainly a good example of his late work. It's is a little walk away from the centre of town if you don't have your own transport -- but well worth the visit.

Loved this minimalist chapel and its features all designed by Mattisse .The stained glass windows are particularly attractive. Best appreciated if you visit the Matisse Museum in Nice first . There you will find a lot of material relating to the construction and design of the chapel .

If you have the chance to go, don't miss it, You will see this little and modern church, with an incredible ambiance. After this little space you will go through a hall and reach a big space with an incredible mural and some personal things of the author. I prefered this church than Mattisse museum, that dessapointed me very much.

My friend and I booked a short break in Nice specifically so we could visit this chapel and we weren't disappointed! It was extremely moving, so much so that my friend was reduced to tears. On our first day in Nice a visit to the Musee Matisse set the scene nicely - we're both huge fans of this artist -... More

Beautiful chappelle, designed by Matisse that offers a beauty that is hard to find. It has an aura of spirituality provided by stained glass windows, simple but powerful tiles created by the master, Matisse. We found ourselves sitting in the Chapelle basking in the light, hard to get up and leave. Don't miss this treasure in Vence.

You'll never spend a better six euros than visiting the Chapelle du Rosaire. Stay a while, soak it all in and you can appreciate how clever and imaginative Matisse was. Visit on a sunny morning to get the sunlight thorugh the windows
