Beautiful chappelle, designed by Matisse that offers a beauty that is hard to find. It has an aura of spirituality provided by stained glass windows, simple but powerful tiles created by the master, Matisse. We found ourselves sitting in the Chapelle basking in the light, hard to get up and leave. Don't miss this treasure in Vence.

You'll never spend a better six euros than visiting the Chapelle du Rosaire. Stay a while, soak it all in and you can appreciate how clever and imaginative Matisse was. Visit on a sunny morning to get the sunlight thorugh the windows

The Chapelle overlooks the valley below. It is a modest building from the outside, but once you descend the stairs (and pay the 6 euro admission), the minimalist T-shaped white chapel is flooded with Matisse’s stained glass (strong royal blues with wavy yellow figures) & a mural depicting the Passion of Christ in Matisse’s terse, angular brush strokes. The alter... More

I first visited the chapel in 1978. It has stayed with me ever since. I can't imagine how crowded it gets these days, try to go at a quiet time. Allow time to sit quietly and empty your head. While you can certainly enjoy the Foundation Maeght, a nice lunch in a cafe, maybe the Fragonard tour in Grasse, nothing... More

I kind of discovered Matisse properly whilst living in the cote d'Azur and a visit to this chapel was a logical progression and I'm very pleased I went. It is beauty and simplicity combined. I suggest you go along on a nice sunny day (which tends to apply most days in Vence) as it is very much the light which... More

The chapel, Matisse's masterpiece, is simple and beautiful, and the exhibition downstairs, which illustrates how apparent simplicity of design was hard won, adds greatly to appreciation of the chapel itself. Just a few minutes walk from Vence town centre.

Although this was a nice chapel with lovely stained glass windows I felt the whole experience was a little underwhelming but still worth seeing. About a 10 - 15 minute walk uphill from the centre of Vence. Like some other reviewers I felt the 6 euro entrance fee was a little much. The windows are lovely with the Matisse cut... More

I had been to the amazing Matisse exhibition at the Tate Modern in London and was really keen to see the Chapelle du Rosaire in Vence. On our visit to the south of France I was not disappointed. After a bus ride from St Paul de Vence and on arrival in Vence it wasn't too clear which way to go... More

This splendid small chapel can be reached by bus from Nice(1.5 e) then about 10 min walk up from the Vence bus station. The chapel redefined our notion of how a chapel usually is.It is light and airy, fully designed by Matisse right down to the doors and chairs.Magnificent stained glass windows changed the light with the time of day and superb... A bit out of the way, but for me well worth the trip. Sitting in the chapel, sunlight streaming through the Matisse stained glass windows which cast an everchanging glow on the white tiles, tiles etched with stunning art; I felt enveloped by and at one with an inspiring artistic/religious installation. Seeing the video (available on net flicks) before the... More
