The chapelle is beautiful, in architecture and interior artwork, BUT we could not visit the garden due to restoration of the building. I think they could have given us some sort of discount on the price of entrence

The chapel is quite small, with beautiful, simple stained glass windows and white walls. It is very different from the traditional, ancient churches in the region-bright and well lit, it seems more to celebrate Christ's life than his suffering, even though this is presented on the rear wall, where the Stations of the Cross are depicted in line drawings. The... More

After seeing a TV programme and a travelling Matisse exhibition at the Tate I was really excited to see the real chapelle. I was so disappointed. It is just not that interesting. There was a short talk but the acoustics were awful so even that could not be heard properly.

If you are a Matisse fan, you must visit this place, but otherwise you can skip it. The chapel is small and it’s away from center. It takes around 30 minutes to get there. The place really is calming and it looks impressive when the sun is shining. The entrance it’s rather expensive for such small place. You unfortunately can’t... More

Matisse's Chapel is an exquisite space, an oasis of calm, an absolute must-see for any fan of Matisse or of Modern Art.

I am an art historian, so I enjoyed visiting the chapel that the artist designed. My travel companion, however, could have skipped it for what it was and for the price (6 euros each). Visitors see the small, sparse chapel which has striking stained glass windows and a few drawings and costumes on display in the gift shop area. Photography... More

Interesting Matisse chapel. A museum guide will give you a short overview of the chapel in English and much more complete one in French. Be sure and check hours it is open before hiking out there.

Excellent atmosphere and colour impact... But average in all other aspect socially the rather spurious reviews from the resident speaker who guides you round ! He is much better artist than a stained glass designer ! The museum at Nice is also third rate. Regional French museums need to up their game!
