We had planned on the visit to the Museum but didn't realise it was right next to the archaeological Roman site! And what a bonus that was, hardly anyone else there, quiet and peaceful and so full of information and artefacts, (the museum) then to be able to explore and walk around the actual site, even into the arena, was... The special exhibition (until sep 23) gives this rather traditional archeological museum a new dimension by showing contemporary photos and videos related to the topic "swimming pools".

Neighboring the Matisse Museum, the archeological museum is located right on the site of the former Cemenelium, which was the hub of Roman domination in the region. The findings excavated range from tools to jewellery, coins, pottery and sculptures .It gives a fairly clear picture of the life led by the ancient inhabitants,in respect to their social, cultural and spiritual lives. There are vestiges of... More

This museum is extremely tiny and the artifacts are not impressive at all, nothing compares to other museums in Europe. The worst of our visit was the extremely rude security guard. We have finished seeing everything indoor and walked towards the entrance/exit, haven't even left the building, and then decided to check out the Roman ruins outdoor as well. So... More

In all honesty, I LOVE history. This place, however, I'd skip. You can see the ruins from the terrace of the Matisse museum and along the walls bordering the site. The artifacts inside were nothing to take my breath away really and the security guard roaming the grounds actually asked to look inside my bag because he thought I stole... More

Bus 15 or 22 will take you to where the Musee Matisse Monastere de cimez and the Musee et site Archeologiques are all located There is no cost of admittance to any of these sites so the1.50 Euro bus trip is worth it.The Cemenelum was in my opinion worth the time alone. it consists of the Amphitheatre Thermal Baths and... We came here after visiting the Musee Matisse and before visiting Musee Marc Chagall. I found it very interesting, both the site and the museum and it is certainly worthy of a brief stop, longer if you are interested in Archaeology. This really adds to the diverse nature of Nice, a city full of amazing contrasts and things to do.... More

It was okay. There was some interesting artefacts and you can visit the ruins outside - although I didn't. It is some distance from the centre of Nice so you will need to get the bus - especially as it is uphill. The surrounding area is lovely and there are other galleries/museums around so it would not be a wasted... More

This museum is up on the hill outsede central Nice and is next to the dull Matisse museum. Outside are the remains of Nice's roman ampitheatre which you can wander about in and clamber on for free. The museum is also free and the two woman at the front desk gave us a friendly welcome and explained about the museum... More

Great museum with genuine artifacts and also some reproductions. Visit the ruins outside. Some hands-on exhibits for kids. Free admission and free detailed museum catalogue.
