You will not be disappointed with this trip, we paid €5 each return on the train with the Carte Isabelle and it out turned out to be the best €10 we spent the whole week we were in the French Riviera. The guide was excellent and came through the train asking where people came from so she could commentate in the... Speakers not working in front carriage, disappointing. Colline du Chateau made up for this, spectacular views of Nice.

I heard great things about this trip. You must call the number on the Train des Merveilles pamphlet to reserve a spot (ONLY in french) before you buy your ticket for the train. Don't ask the info booth in the Nice train station for info, they advised me to buy a 50 euro ticket to Tende from the machine, but... More

We took this from Nice to Tende and back, just for the fun of the ride. Truly amazing. I particularly liked the corkscrew tunnel snaking its way up through a mountain! Wow! Plenty of spectacular views. Tende is an interesting place to spend a few hours. Be careful though, this trip only really works if the weather is reasonable -... More

Me and my boyfriend caught this wonderful train from Nice Ville to Tende, France. It is recommended to reserve in advance however the tourist office wouldn't book it for us, and when we called the number we couldn't understand the French. Thank gosh we were able to buy the train ticket at the train station the day before. The train... More

I took this train journey recently from Nice to Tende, and I was amazed with the beautiful scenery, mountain villages and viaducts. On board the train we also had the lovely Patricia who did a fantastic job of explaining the history of the passing villages in both English and French. For some reason this train trip is not really promoted... More

A great day out from Nice into spectacular mountains and really crisp clear air. Plenty of mountain towns to stop at. We had lunch in Sospol overlooking the gorges. Great

We first used this train 5 years ago from Cuneo to Nice. No problems. This year we planned to (and did) Nice to St Dalmas (for the Parc Nacional des Merveilles), and St. Dalmas to Breil-sur-Roya; we wanted to continue down the Ventimilia section, but that wasn't to be. The whole area is stunning and the railway is an amazing... More

We have been staying in Breil sur Roya for the past three weeks so have enjoyed the opportunity to visit both the Côte d'Azur and the Alps Provence. Unfortunately disruptions to the rail service due to winter mudslides have complicated visits to the number of medieval villages in the area, but with planning it can be achieved and is well... More

We enjoyed this lovely journey as far as La Brigue in June 2014. However due to a landslide earlier this year a bus takes you from near the train station part of the way. The train climbs slowly up the Maritime Alps, across viaducts and many tunnels. An unexpected bonus was the lady conducting a commentary on what was passing... More
