Marvellous train to Tende.

I did this trip in Mid-October and the fall colors in the mountains were amazing. The live narration on the ride to Tende was informative and enjoyable. The view from the train are spectacular. When in Tende I highly recommend doing the hike up to the chapel. It's steep but the views are worth it!

We woke up super excited about our trip to Tende. We expected so much from this trip. I guess this is where we went wrong...expectations... The train itself was clean and modern. The views were great, although expect a lot of tunnels which after a while kinda become boring. We absolutely HATED the fact that we had commentary for the... More

We got the ZOU pass as many suggested - $15/day - was able to buy off the SNCF website at home before we left. It was more for convenience that we got it, and in case we wanted to venture off to another town along the train route, we could jump on/off. The train was very comfortable with AC -... More

First off, get the Zou pass from the office just to the right of the main SNCF Gare in Nice (at time of writing €15 and good for the days travel) we were able to get this around 9am and still be on comfortable time for the train around 9.20am. Enjoy a scenic train journey along and across valleys up... More

I didn't buy a ZouPass but paid regular price for a return to Sospel which was about the same price. There's a ZouPass office aside the main gare in Nice where you can get help with buying your ticket and also has a very short line. Actually, the attendant can probably sell you any train ticket from here to anywhere... More

I came from Antibes, changed at Nice, and thoroughly enjoyed the train journey and the friendly, fascinating and informative commentary. Well done to SNCF for putting that on, at no extra cost. The €15 day pass is fantastic value for money. The Museum at Tende is wonderful and its free to enter - if you are interested in the geology... More

This is a really excellent trip on a beautiful railway line. It takes you way up into the tiny town of Tende which has both a modern part and a medieval village with a church. The easiest way to do the trip in summer is to buy a 'Pass Zou!' which gives you one day's unlimited travel on local trains,... More

We couldn't believe that this wonderful trip was just 15e each (using the Zou Pass)!! It truly isn't to be missed! To avoid the queues in the morning, we purchased our tickets the evening before (on our way home from Monaco). The guide was very helpful and instructed us where to sit and provided us with a map in English.... More

Loved it! Perfect counterpoint to a seaside holiday! Took the 9.20am train*, so had the guide commentary in English and French. Spent the day in Tende, where we really enjoyed the exceptional Musee de Merveilles (free entry). The highlight of the day (and of the holiday, for me) was climbing to the top of the village through tiny medieval 'streets'... More

The scenery is magnificient..it's great to get the commentary on the train, and the lady was quite nice and helpful. Great day out of Nice, but Tende was a disappointment. I was expecting such a pretty quaint town and found that it was a bit too quiet and dead. No cute shops or boulangeries. They did have a nice museum... More
