A great day out from Nice into spectacular mountains and really crisp clear air. Plenty of mountain towns to stop at. We had lunch in Sospol overlooking the gorges. Great

We first used this train 5 years ago from Cuneo to Nice. No problems. This year we planned to (and did) Nice to St Dalmas (for the Parc Nacional des Merveilles), and St. Dalmas to Breil-sur-Roya; we wanted to continue down the Ventimilia section, but that wasn't to be. The whole area is stunning and the railway is an amazing... More

We have been staying in Breil sur Roya for the past three weeks so have enjoyed the opportunity to visit both the Côte d'Azur and the Alps Provence. Unfortunately disruptions to the rail service due to winter mudslides have complicated visits to the number of medieval villages in the area, but with planning it can be achieved and is well... More

We enjoyed this lovely journey as far as La Brigue in June 2014. However due to a landslide earlier this year a bus takes you from near the train station part of the way. The train climbs slowly up the Maritime Alps, across viaducts and many tunnels. An unexpected bonus was the lady conducting a commentary on what was passing... More

Also you have to book the bus in advance. There is a free-phone number but no one answers. I didn't go.

28th March 2014. Due to a rock and soil landslide the line is closed from Nice for several stops. We were warned that if we did bypass the fall by bus that the service was limited. They do not know when it will reopen, so let's hope it is before we return to try it out.

We went to Nice in Christmas holidays and on Day 4 we took Train des Marveilles for Tende and back. From Trip advisor, we found that this is a very scenic route and thus went to Tourist office besides Rail station to get all the necessary information. Train des Merveills means trainof wonders. It has many bridges, tunnels and travel... More

The train departed at 9.13 and it is a long journey. There are a lot of tunnels, and I mean a lot, but when you emerge, the views are spectacular. We have previously done the Train de Pignes, which we also enjoyed. This train is more comfortable and modern. On the journey up, the mist was lying heavily over the... More

We tooked this train almost daily to visit beautiful cities between Nice and Ventimiglie, and also to reach Tende. Do not miss to visit all, spectacular stations starting from Villefranche and ending with Menton.

What a brilliant way to see the beautiful scenery going through the mountains. There are little villages dotted here and there, perched on the mountains with their narrow streets and terracotta tiled roofs, all so very picturesque. I would recommend spending a few hours to take a look round Tende with it's quaint little alley ways and stunning views.
