Musée de la Mer has a nice collection of ancient jars found off the coast of Sainte Marguerite Island. There is the prison cell of the famous Man in the Iron Mask. If you can manage to get a guided tour, it is worth the information and historical facts you will learn about the Island and Cannes.

The museum is what drew us to the Island in the first place. It is a pretty simple museum. There is signage in English which is very helpful and not all that common in France. However, no guide book in English. There is a charge, something like 6 Euro. The bulk of the museum displays are on maritime finds from... More

We liked the Fort Royal because we came upon it after a big walk round the island followed by a nice swim to cool off and at that point we were just in the mood for a bit of culture. The fort is an impressive piece of military architecture and I think you need the guided tour to get the... More

It's a small museum on the Isle of St.Marguerite, just a 15 mins boat ride from Cannes. It's in a former fortress. What can you see? You can see some former cells of different prisoners of whom the man in the iron mask was the most famous one. Who was he? Nobody knows exactly, perhaps he was the illegitimate brother... More

The tale of the iron mask takes you to Musee de la Mer where you learn more than 60 names where incriminated to have hidden behind the mask for 11 years. Beautiful view but not a real museum

It is just a short walk from the pier and the path is nice. It cost 6 Euro/pers to visit the fort/museum. There is not much to see but it is still interesting and worth it. It took us about 30-45 minutes to visit. There are also some great photo spots from inside the fort.

tell the story of the Fort Royal and you get to see the prison where the Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned.

Unless you're into roman jugs, the two things to see here are the huguenot memorial, to the memory of the pastors imprisoned by the crown in the eighteenth Century, and the prison cell of the man of the iron mask (whoever he was).

I would not recommend this museum , as there are not much to see . You should be spending your time on the island instead of going to this museum .
