Take a bit of time out from busy Cannes to visit this quiet island. Walks through the pine forests are lovely and there are many peaceful coves to explore. The castle - 6 euros entrance is a must for fans of man in the iron mask as this is supposed to be his prison. Nice restaurant - l'escele - great... More

Loved this island! It's the bigger of the two islands. If you can turn right when you get off the boat! Don't go the way most people go and definitely don't bother with the castle as it costs 6 euros to enter it and it takes you five minutes to go around it!! Not worth it! We only discovered the... Decent size boats, so no worries if it's a little choppy. If you can, of course, pick a calm day. Essentials you need to know : at least from the beginning of April to the end of September, probably longer, there are drinks / refreshments available, especially if you look to the right round a corner on your way up... The smaller of the two island situated 20 min boat ride from the Cannes coast is worth the visit. It is extremely beautiful and has some historic buildings too. Please note that the boats are not there from 12 PM - 2PM, (somehow most things like even museums are closed during these hours in this part of the world). Tickets... More

Ile Sainte Marguerite is well worth a visit if you are in the Cannes area. It is quiet and calm. Even in August, small private coves can be found to spend the day along the turquoise sea shore. I love visiting in winter for hiking around the 8km perimeter. Pack a lunch and have a picnic at one of the... More

It was indeed a warm and sunny day on the Island. My wife and I chose St. Marguerite over it's sister island because of the connection with the Man in the Iron Mask. We were a little concerned as this was January but it turned out to be a great day. Winter has a few pluses including no crowds and... More

We happened to pick a choppy day to cross(!) - the weather was very sunny for a chilly January day. I was only on guard when the young lady tried to short change me but this was my only gripe: I knew enough French to remonstrate. Being winter: there are no restaurants or tourist trappings. This, however, added to the... More

I loved the ferry ride. The mediterranean sea, the soft sun on my face, the slightly nippy breeze and open skies. The island and fort are lovely.
