Busy and fun even when the rest of the city closed. Restaurants good, Christmas market fun, busy and young.

We were there for New Year Eve / Jan 1st and the Christmas market was still in full go, which was nice. Not nice were the loudspeakers from the city blasting some tasteless radio-station and uncontrolled people with independent speakers of their own to demonstrate their music (-skills?)

Wonderful Christmas market and beautifully lit. Some nice restaurants all the way around the square.

A very pretty spot in the middle of Avignon. An obvious meeting spot for locals, so always bustling. Lots of places to eat and even in winter, you can still dine outside because the restaurants have outdoor heating which is very effective.

The square come Xmas turns into the Xmas market with the standard cabins full of a variety of offerings. A good selection from jewellery to cheese to jumpers. Good selection of restaurants all around the area.

This is the long square in front of the Hotel de Ville, with terrace cafés along both sides and the "Belle Epoque" carrousel at the top end. During the summer this square is packed with people and activity. Both of the streets at the top end of the Place d'Horloge lead to the Place du Palais and the Palace of... More

This darling old hotel has much charm, but most of all, it is steps from all the great spots and sites in Avignon. You will be 100 steps to the Palais du Papes, the OPera, the city hall, wonderful shopping and churches

This place is the nicest place in Avignon with all its life and activity. If you come in the morning I would recommend taking a nice breakfast in one of the cafe on the side of this place.

Located right in the historic centre of Avignon, with tables under rows of large trees, there is plenty to see while you enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants. There's of course plenty of people watching to be done, but also street acts and musicians. Ok, so it's a bit of a tourist trap and maybe the food... More
