We were in Arles, and my friend had been on this tour before, where you can buy a ticket to see 4 historic and/or artistic locations in the city. Museon Arlaten was one of them. I was surprised to see every kind of art, sculptures, tapestries, paintings, carvings, collages, and forging there. The styles ranged from Medieval to Impressionist to... More

This museum is closed for renovations. Our option was to go to the Musee de la Camargue. I cannot tell you the differences are between the two places but the Musee de la Camargue was worth the stop if you have a car.It illustrated the inextricable cultural linkage between Arles and the Camargue.

Not my special period, but very interesting to see. Everyday objects from 19th century Provence.

Built around a courtyard which contains some remains of the Roman forum, it has tableaux of Arlesian life and exhibits of folk artefacts connected with Arles and the surrounding area, pictures - mainly of ladies in the distinctive local costume, maps etc. The museum staff also wear... This unassuming museum gives you a fascinating insight into provencale life in the early 1900s. It is an ethnographic collection gathered by Nobel Laureate Frederic Mistral who spent his Nobel money collecting anything he thought would be of interest in documenting the daily lives of people at the time. The museum is easy to miss, indeed we almost walked right... More
