We drove from Castelanne to Moustier along the gorge in a motorhome. I did have some reservations before we set out but the road, whilst narrow in places, is managable in all but the largest of vehicles - it just takes concentration and a bit of courtesy. The most scenic drive during a 4000 mile tour of western Europe. Not... More

At the beginning of the Gorge is a beautiful blue lake where we watched people enter the gorge in pedaloes which we hadn't expected. The water going in to the gorge was the same lovely shade of blue and it was all very picturesque. The road alongside the gorge runs along both the north rim and the south rim. We... More

Seen the grand canyon in the USA some people get of on it some like me failed to get excited. The deal with Gorges Du Verdon is you drive up over 3000 mitres up steep windy mountain roads & narrow passes which at time is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced don't be clever with it, this will test... On a whim, with no advanced planning, we left Aix-in Provence, in our rented car, and headed to the Verdon Gorges which we had checked out on the internet. It was a lovely day in November, bright and not too cold. As soon as we turned off the highway and headed toward the gorges, we were gobsmacked with the bucolic... More

Stopped to take pictures from above the gorges, the water was bluer than blue and lots of water sports going on. Get used to the twisty roads in the area. You can see the lavender fields on the way to the gorges so you can cover the area in one day.

The whole Gorges du Verdon area is much more infrastructurally developed than I had imagined from just reading about it in guide books. The road network to it and around it is excellent. The area is very much focused on outdoor activities connected with the lakes (Lake St Croix), the river, the mountains and walking/trekking. It's got a range of... More

We drove through through the canyon and loved it - the scenery was fabulous, the next day we hired a paddle boat and paddled through the canyon. It was an incredible experience. We highly recommend!

Fabulous place for a roadtrip. The roads were twisty and the scenery spectacular (and not for the faint-hearted), parts of it had almost 700m vertical drops, falling deep into a ravine!! There was a beautiful, almost surreal, aching tranquility about this place. We stopped many many times, just to experience and re-experience the magnificence of nature… For more photos and... More
