By the sea, cute shops and cafés... and small forests as parks. Great big 19th century houses in one part of the place. The other part : worth strolling along typical french small streets; few people yet apparently congenial (has to be said as France is far from being congenial; just beautiful !).
Cheap prices... Sunny on that very day;...

It's the jump off point for Ile d'Oleron- Ile de Ré is a much better bet!

Fouras is located on the end of a small peninsula and is the site of medival fortifications. From Fouras you can see a Napoleanic Fort buitl in rocks out in the Ocean. You can also see an island both can be visited by boat. Port des Barques is across the peninsula and is the site were Lafayette left to participate...
