From old town, to promenade, to old fort to ferry terminal, all within walking distance and wonderful coastal views. Seafood galore both in restaurants and to buy fresh from the kiosks by the ferry terminal peninsular. It was a hot day when we visited and bars and restaurants were happy to bring our dog water without asking - one even... More

What a pleasant surprise - well worth a trip. Fouras is set on a beautiful peninsula with beaches to the north and south and is as well presented as any chic seaside town in the South of France but without ludicrous prices or the crowds. Located about 20 mins by dual-carriageway from La Rochelle, many people will only venture to... More

Very nice peninsula where you can see the surrounding islands. You have some beaches there and you can see the old fort along the seaside. worth the detour!

This was very great surprice for us, wanted to go to Fort Boyard, so we spent two days in Fouras, having few perfect dinners by the beach and walking in this romantic place! If you wanna go to Fort Boyard, move to Boyardville on the island with your car (60 km far from Fouras), there is the closest way to... More

Very windy beach here in February. Looked like it would be good safe swimming in season. Interesting that a local crew rowed Napoleon out to the ship that took him into exile.

Nice coastal town, old fashioned and quite a few little restaurants, plus chance to take short sea trip over to local islands and Fort Boyard with ferries.

Two very different sides to Fouras. the beautiful sandy beach and the Rocky side to the causeway and fort. Walk out at low tide to collect mussels and oysters, but don't trespass on the beds. Take the ferry over to Ile d' aix from here. The beach at Fouras is lovely and sandy. A great family day out.

Lovely open beach with nice promenade which is spotlessly clean. There are several restaurants along the seafront all of a high standard and, reasonably priced. The main shopping street (Rue de la Halle) is charming with plenty of small shops, cafe's and a covered market hall. The Baker and cakeshop at the bottom of this road bears special merit- great...
