This is inspiring yet disturbing. To think that this lighthouse doubled up as a prison is weird. Yet they were not locked in, other than in the tower, so could walk up and down the stairs doing graffiti on the way! A must for any visitor.

What a joy, a museum of historic graffiti . Fantastic that someone had the foresight to preserve this piece of history. After climbing some 200 steps you can ascend the towers of La Rochelle to find some amazing views of the city! Plus it's free for under 26s with an EU passport

We visited la Rochelle with our 8 yr old and 4 yr old and went up the middle tower, they loved it! Amazing views over this beautiful city, we walked along the wall to the beach. Enjoyable day out in this historical merchants city.

Most beautiful of all the tours in La Rochelle. Make sure you climb all the way up!! Entrance for free if you are under 26 years old europian. Some sundays are also for free.

Felt like the real thing! Good thing the catholics left the three towers standing after they destroyed the rest of this successful protestant merchant town.

I did the tour of the three towers without the family as they don't have a head for heights. Each of the three towers is interesting in its own right as they all had different uses. La Lanterne was used as a prison for a long time and many seafaring brits of old seem to have been thrown in there... More
