we had an apartment right down in the Bieux Port, walked out of the house and found ourselves in the middle of the action. Beautiful. Throughout the year there are festivals and activities, art fairs and more. Every ten minutes the little water bus goes from here over to the museum part across the harbor. The walk around the harbor... More

The contrast of historic significance and modern yachting combined with tourism is striking. However, it is a pleasant place to visit and offers modern amenities in terms of shopping and a range of dining options.

We were ferrying a sailboat from Perros Guirrec to La Rochelle. We parked the boat there and spent 24 hours resting, visiting other boats and going to restaurants around the area. It is a very lively area worth visiting for a few hours in the Summer when many boats are anchored there.

This is a lovely place for a walk day or night, it is vibrant and buzzing with tourists and locals alike. There is a large number of restaurant and bars catering to all tastes and budgets. My only problem with the place was that I wished that I had longer to explore than just a couple of hours. A day... More

We visited here on our 30th wedding anniversary. Very fortunate as "hermione" was docked just before setting off on her transatlantic journey - the port is a must to walk round - there is a small market - get a coffee or aperitif at one of the small bars and watch the world go by - idyllic 😊

Great place to walk around during day or evening, plenty of life both day and night. Many restaurants serving lots of dishes, but try the Moules just excellent as you would expect for a sea port.

The Old Port of La Rochelle is the reason why people come here. Numerous restaurants, great views. Don't miss this.

Walked around the port. Waited to board a boat for Fort Boyard. Had lunch in immediate area. It was romantic with the sun and the clear sky.

One of the nicest ports you'll come across. Great for a wander around and plenty of spots to sit and people watch. The streets behind the port are wonderful to meander ant take in the atmosphere. be sure to visit the towers also. Recommend les Chaines first and then St. Nicolas.

I've visited la Rochelle often but no trip is complete without a little stroll around the Vieux Port. Sit and have a slow coffee in a cafe watching the world go by, or take in the street performers and artists. Its one of the best places in the world to eat a relaxed multi coursed Sunday lunch & then reward... More
