The combination of a history lesson, a tour of a castle and then a shot or two of cognac is an absolute winner. Learning that Baron Otard was a fellow Scot was quite a surprise. The tasting has introduced me to a drink which I may come to appreciate as much as a good Scottish malt whisky (that's maybe going... More

There are 2 parts to the visit. The first one is a little discovery of the Castle of Francois 1er, the French King who welcomed and befriended Leonardo Da Vinci in France, and the second, the tour of Otard Cognac. You don't visit a lot of the castle but the highlight is a magnificent vaulted room "salle des gardes" designed... More

English tour of both Hennesey and Otard, my group found the Otard tour to be superior. To be able to see the residence of Francois I along with a knowledgable history of the production of cognac was a bonus. Our guide was delightful. Better cognacs were offered at a lesser tour price.

Excellent castle and history. I was a little disappointed because there was a group of three people who decided to bring their toddler on the tour.... Bad idea, this probably ruined my experience. When Hugo was talking and explaining the history, the attention always shifted to this little kid, every 30 seconds.. WHY DO YOU BRING YOUR LITTLE KID ON... More

First, let me say this castle is quite the place to visit. It's where King Francis I was born and was visited by Richard the Lionhart too! Now, they Baron Otard, very high end cognac, is made. It was a perfect visit...impressive and delicious too! We loved it!

The tourist office gave us some misinformation about tours for a Sunday but fortunately for us the Trafalgar tour group allowed us to tag along on their tour. This tour was in English and the Otard guide was very conscientious but I think she would have been more comfortable in French or German. Otard has the distinction of the chateau... More

We have visited many of the distilleries in Cognac and had, so far, had pleasant experiences there. We had seen a number of good write-ups of Otard and our guests asked us to take them to one we hadn't been to before, so we chose it. What a disappointment. Compared with several of the others, it was unimpressive. As our... More

We had time to take one tour of a cognac house while we were in town and had trouble deciding which one to visit because they all seemed to offer similar tours. However, a friend told us that Otard was the one to pick because the building itself had a very interesting history. We were definitely steered in the right... More

Love doing the tour around the Chateau Otard as you learn historical facts; learn about the building and of course the cognac! We have done the tour several times over the years and they do update some of it so always learn something new. Good value for money; parking by the river or in town - the centre is a... More

This beautiful little Chateau was the birthplace of King Francois 1 of France and the tour gives you a basic knowledge of the Cognac making process too. You get to see the main body of the Chateau and then the cellars where there is graffitti from prisoners dated back to the 1800's but is now where the Eau de Vie... More
