Visiting France with 3 kids, we are looking to experience different aspects of the country. After some days in the non stop city of Paris, a great tour by the rivers of Marais Poitevin was amazing! We got a great guide (French only) who told us the history of the region. It is a calm and relaxed 1.5h on a... More

I cannot add much except that we were 9 in a boat for 10, plus Julien our stupendous guide, for a 2 hour tour. He spoke in clear, relatively slow French and took a breath from time to time so we could ask questions. He knows the canals like the back of his hand since he grew up in this... More

An hour and a half in a flat-bottomed boat, drifting around the leafy bends of the wet marsh on a sunny day. It couldn't have been better. Around £10 per person for the guided tour. There's a friendly cafe and gift shop on site with free parking AND it's right next to the Brasserie de la Repentie which is an... More

My wife and I opted for the "La Tradition" option, benefitting not only from having the boat to ourselves but also being taken around the quieter waterways. The guide was brilliant, and the scenery and atmosphere wonderful. With every penny.

If you're going to Niort, make sure to pass through the Marais Poitevin Canal where you will enjoy nature as calmly as you may think. With a surface area of 970 square kilometres (370 sq mi), it is the largest marsh on the Atlantic coast and the second largest of the whole country (after the Camargue). Extending across three departments... More

Yes, we did get lost fortunately we'd booked for more than one hour. It kept two teenagers occupied, getting the hang of the boat. It was a brilliant way to spend a very sunny day and it was amazing to think that the monks had dug out all the waterways. Well worth the money. Depending where you go from there... More

Loved it! Chaotic at first! Bumping off the banks, into the stinging nettles, but then we got the knack and we were off Hawaii five o style! We saw a water vole and lots of beautiful cows everywhere, a real treat on a glorious summer day, try it worth €15 of anyone's money.

I went to the Marais 3 years ago with my daughter on a school trip (we live here, about 40mins away). Didn't really know what to expect but just knew that we were all going in boats. The Marais is a system of crossed waterway in the marshes. We were 1 adult and 6 children to a boat and had... More
