Had an excellent, informatrive, bubbly guide who took us on a no rush tour. Could not believe the amount of bottles and miles of caves under the streets of Saumur. Our guide also said some of the stone taken out was used on St Paul Cathedral ! Response to my questions made me understand more about vintage wine. Bought some nice... More

Saw this place on Tripadvisor and stopped in for a visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They spoke excellent English which made the visit more pleasant. The wine is very good. You pay a small tasting fee that is waived if you purchase wine. They have a large variety of sparkling wines. There were still wines, but I... More

This is more like it - only 19 employees, still using traditional methods to produce really good, well priced wines. The guides are friendly and have an excellent knowledge of the wine. Really nice shop - free tastings and lots of nice things to take home!

Interesting tour of Caves Louis de Grenelle by Anne. 2.5 euros each. Kids free. Didn't prebook tour. Said it was her first tour in English. The kids (aged 11,9,6 & 4) interest was held throughout. I think they were particularly interested in the fact that some of the bottles explode under pressure. Great tasting of the sparkling wines at the... More

Enjoyed another tour of the caves with a very friendly and interesting guide who was willing to answer all our questions and felt like a special tour as we were the only two that morning!! Had a fabulous tasting of their wonderful sparkling wines and came away with two boxes each.; This tour is far superior to others we have... More

We were taken on a tour within five minutes of arriving. Our guide, Helene, spoke excellent English and explained everything carefully and in detail. She was happy to answer as many questions as we wished to ask. We got a real sense of the vastness of the labyrinthine cave system and were fascinated by the use of street names for... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour of the wine caves. The guide was enthusiastic and fun. It was quite easy to follow her English and we enjoyed her explanation of how the sparkling wine is produced. If you're in Saumur, there is no reason not to visit this spot. And the sparkling wine (don't call it champagne) was delicious.

Dropped in for a wine tasting and found a tour just leaving. The tour guide waited for us and found us an English translation for the tour (as most everybody else spoke French and so the majority of the tour would be in French). Nice tour of the underground caves with a great explanation of the process. Finished with a... More

I have been here several times before with family & friends. We choose this one because it is the only one in the centre of Saumur with wholly underground caves. Even so, this visit didn't disappoint - it was presented mainly in English (my friends are actually French but their English is very good because they live in UK). They... More

We had to wait about 30 mins for a tour but it was well worth the wait.
