Linked with a tour of the monument to Joan of Arc, this area is very picturesque, with wonderful old buildings, well preserved. Meandering around the streets or sitting sipping cafe noir, an ideal place

We visited Rouen and included the Vieux-Marché because that's where Jeanne D'Arc was burned at the stake. The area was interesting for another reasons. While having a cup of coffee at one of the cafés, I asked a local resident about WWII in Rouen. It was obvious there had been fighting when I saw the Palais de Justice with all... More

My primary interest in visiting the Place du Vieux Marche was morbid curiosity. I wanted to see where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. How odd it was to discover that the site is not identified with a grand monument, but is instead just a marked-off area with shrubbery, flowers and a simple placard announcing in French, English,... As part of the medieval area of Rouen, this is a lovely square and has the interesting modern architecture of the Jean D'Arc church although I found it chilling to see the exact spot where she was burned. we used the car park underground at the square which was an excellent place to keep the car cool whilst exploring central... Old Market square would be absolutely lovely if it was not full of homeless people and if the strange architecture of St. Joan of Arc church was not filling almost the whole place. I tried to imagine what would it look like here if only the magnificent medieval buildings were preserved and the square was fully reserved to markets and... More

...although there are countless good eateries in Rouen...this little market is a place one has to visit for everything from seafood to cheeses to bread of all sorts to cured meats and other delicious treats. ...make a picnic basket filled with cheeses roast chicken and a salad...and go back to the Cathedrale grounds... ...oh and bring a chilled Rose.

An interesting but sad place as it was the place where Joab of Arc was executed. There is a fabulous market and also there are many good restuarants in the area...a must do place when visitng Rouen.

Despite the poor weather, we had a great time here. A lovely way to spend a couple hours, huddling under the small tents and tasting a mouth watering array of local and non-local delicacies. we also were able to gather many gifts given the diversity of products on offer. We especially loved the hand-made soap products availabel at a very... More

Nice area with character - lots of restaurants and a few shops. Nice place for a drink and conversation. The Joan of Arc Church is there where they turned her a bit crispy. Beware on nights when there is a football / soccer match on as they do tend to get a bit roudy especially if it is certain teams... More

There can be few things better than sitting outside a café in the Place de Vieux-Marche in Rouen. It has everything. It has great cafes and restaurants; it has one of the most beautiful churches in the world and it has a history that cannot fail to make you think. It encourages a philosophical attitude to life and I have... More
