An imposing and impressive 12th century building (how did they build on this scale 800+ years ago!). On entering the church from the doors at the west front, you come into an enormous nave, with stone pillars soaring to the ornamental ceiling high above. As others have noted, the cathedral suffered extensive bomb damage in 1944, and although much restoration... More

One of the great Cathedrals in France. If you are Catholic Sunday Mass is 10 AM and weekdays 6 PM ( Chapel at rear of main altar, enter from l/h side).

A church was already present at the location in late 4th century, and eventually a cathedral was established in Rouen as in Poitiers. It was enlarged by St. Ouen in 650, and visited by Charlemagne in 769. All the buildings perished during a Viking raid in the 9th century. The Viking leader, Rollo, founder of the Duchy of Normandy, was... More

it was once the tallest building in the world and the subject of a series of paintings by Claude Monet. Really spectacular and it doesn’t hurt that it is in the beautiful city of Rouen!!

This jewel in the middle of Rouen does not deserve the work it's ancestors made in the past. The church is covered with plants, dirt and there's also a sign which alerts the visitors "do not approach, falling stones"... the people must do something for this place if they want it to stay where it is! SHAME!

I like that this building was used by many Impressionists artists, who painted it at different times and in different seasons to show changes in the light on this structure.

I admit that when my wife said we had to go see the light show at the cathedral I was highly skeptical. But I was wrong. It was totally cool. About 20 minutes and on a loop. My 16-year old son loved it. Cathedral itself is beautiful, of course, too. Enjoy!!

This Gothic Cathedral is magnificent inside and out, the outside is a beautiful structure and it has been painted by Claude Monet many times, as he captured the different light of the day, he used to stay opposite, but that building has since burnt down. The high ceiling inside is typically gothic and leads to a wonderful alter. There is... More
