This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world in my mind. Luckily, we had visited it before the restoration work. It is hard to describe the elegance of the remarkable Cathedral: it is just impeccable. The exterior dominates the city, every angle is different and has its own charm. No wonder it inspired Monet! The interior with... More

Lovely Gothic church in Rouen. Lots of history associated with church, mainly Richard the Lionhearted and John Plantagenet/ John Lancaster, Duke of Bedford. Don't miss it!

Several major cathedrals are currently undergoing badly needed restoration (e.g. Orleans, Rouen etc.) but they are still worth seeing. The various bits of Notre-Dame Rouen that have been salvaged/rebuilt through the centuries show several variants of Gothic architectural style that one would be hard pressed to find in any other location. Plus you have the ornate cast iron spire that... More

This is a very impressive cathedral - in nov 2014 some repairs are being made and portions are covered up. But the Christmas market is also outside, so it's a bit hard to get a good photo of the front. But you have some amazing things inside. Rollo is entombed here at the back and there is a tomb for... Easy to find. Quiet and well worth a visit. Lots to look at. Sadly scaffolding outside prevented me from taking pictures.

We could not enjoy the façade that Monet made famous in mid-October because of the scaffolding associated with restoration work going on. Since the façade is a major attraction of the cathedral, the temporary work detracted from our visit. The interior feels somewhat colder than some of the other gothic cathedrals we visited, the stained glass overall not as awesome.... More

Point of Interest was the site of Joan of Arc being burned at the stake in Downtown. Parking underground was inexpensive and in the same square. Walking though from this site to Notre Dame Cathedral was about 5 city blocks with wall to wall shops, restaurants and bakeries/deli's. It was fun, packed with shoppers but most of all a beautiful... Visiting Rouen early September 2014 with a group, we had the privilege of exploring this beautiful Cathedral which complemented many other worthwhile attractions in this attractive City. Of note was an evening Light and Music show obviously designed to be projected onto the front face of the Cathedral as a tribute to Monet and his artistry with colour. I recommend... More
