French stained glass windows are among the best in the world, but they are often very high above your head and hard to see in detail. In this remarkable, daring building, the windows are at a much lower level so their intricate details are much easier to see and photograph. The windows are from the 16th century, so not from... As you see by my title, I confess that I did not have the chance to see the inside - like so many other attractions in France, particularly outside Paris, it is closed for two hours in the middle of the day, so the day-tripper (as I was, from Paris) must pick and choose what sights to see carefully -... The Church of St. Joan of Arc is a spectacular blend of modern and historical elements. The interior is bright and innovative. The stained glass was preserved during the war years, and then reinstalled in this location. The mariner history of the area is evident, with the flowing woodwork reminding us of historical shipbuilding, and windows in the shape of... More

Jeanne d'Arc... Joan of Arc. If you don't know much about her history, a visit to this church will make you want to know more! This church is a wonderful piece of architecture in its own right. The exterior is meant to depict the flames that burned on that same spot. The Inside is full of light, a beautiful wooden... More

If you are in Rouen, it is worth a stop to see the interior of this church. The stained glass windows are beautiful when seen from the inside, and the interior design of the church is unlike any I've seen. The wooden ceilings have a curved shape resembling a ship's hull. Outside the church is a tall cross marking the... More

Visited the church as part of a walking tour of Rouen from the Amadeus Diamond riverboat docked on the Seine. The site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake is near the church. It is marked by a very tall cross. The real reason why she was burned at the stake was because she dressed like a man.... More

The outside of this modern church looks like a witches hat, which given that poor old Joan was burnt as a witch is an interesting choice. I don't love it but I don't think that this is relevant. It's a powerful piece. The window inside is spectacular, just huge and very beautiful indeed, juxta posed with sculptural wooden roof work,... More

A well educated French person told me, "Most French people don't believe in Jeanne d'Duc; if she did exist, 'she' must have been a man." This really got me reading! Joan was born 3 years before the victorious war of Henry the 5th Battle of Agincourt. France was in a mess, French nobles were killing each other and England combined... More

It is a relatively new building, bowl shaped, with lots of wood. It appeared warm and friendly and had fine liturgical space. I was a bit put off by a cordoned off area for something I did not understand. Some of the stained glass windows have been repurposed from a destroyed church, but some are new and fairly banal. The... More
