A Great Museum

Outstanding collection, and you can visit in peace and quiet unlike Parisian museums. For only 5 euros, you can visit all three museums in the center.

The structure is beautiful and the art is quite good. Unlike Paris where every museum was crowded with a long line to get in (and expensive), the museum is reasonably priced, small crowds so that all the art was quite visible, and friendly staff. There are lockers to store bags. Art from many periods and styles are there. It is... More

This is only five euros to go in but is full of fantastic paintings and works of art. Need a least a day to take in all in.

On a visit of a few days, this makes a nice interlude. Although the oddity of their partial opening arrangement and forced routing almost caused us to miss the modern section. However, from my point of view, it was worth it just to see a painting of a traditional method of selling oranges. It was free on Sunday, as I... More

I go to Rouen every year, and I always go to this museum (and the other two museums, the Ceramic Museum and the Ironworks Museum, both of which are unique and remarkable). The Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts) museum has a choice collection of Impressionists and other Normandy-focused artists, plus very well done special exhibits. The collection of religious works is spectacular,... More

Oozing quality art from every frame, this museum must be seen. Spend a few hours here as early in the day as possible and you just might have the place to yourself!

A very large building housing the museum of fine arts. Some Monets and mostly impressionist paintings like his. Lots of lesser known paintings, some were hugh like the ones in the Academia in Venice. Lots od Sisleys, Pissaros also.

This museum houses a scattering of paintings by the world famous--Caravaggio, Velasquez, Boucher, Gericault, Monet, Sisley--and an extensive collection of fine art by lesser lights. There is no single stand-out work and that may be its chief letdown or its primary strength, depending on your point of view. It is certainly worth an hour or two of your time even... More

The museum is in a very large building with a whole bunch of rooms adjoining each other, and the map provided isn't all that much help. The selection of art varies from the mundane to the eye-opening (the latter includes an actual Marcel Duchamp boite en valise). There is a small selection of Russian art (consisting almost entirely of icons),... More

We were pleasantly surprised at how extensive their collection is - and spent more than 3 hours wandering from room to room enjoying the paintings and sculptures. My husband loved the fact that he was free to photograph as long as he did not use a flash.
