Being the largest museum in town, a visit to Musée des Beaux Arts will keep you busy for at least a couple of hours, provided that you're interested in classical and modern painting. The classical paintings are the mainstay; the museum has halls dedicated to artworks from the15-17th century, the 18th century, the 19th century (the mainstay of the museum,... More

Nice sized collection to see in a visit since it is not such a huge museum. But you do not get to see the Monet painting of Notre Dame cathedral in the permanent collection. You had to pay extra for the cathedral exhibit. You hear about the painting all over town, and then they charge extra? Seemed to be a... More

Some very nice pieces, Renaissance and Impressionist eras, a cute restaurant that we took pictures of but did not eat in, and close to the center of town.

The purpouse of our wisit to this museum was the cathedral exhibition - this was just marvellously done. But the permanent collection of this museum is of an extraordinary richness: you'll find ther so many magnificent works of art from velazquez, carravagio, veronese or fragonard to monet, sisley or modigliani and duchamp! just go!

This Museum's pêrmanent exhibitions are unique. you can see there an impressive collection of pictures from impressionists, medieval religious art, etc.... That said, this review therefor does relate - only - to the current temporary exhibition, "les cathédrales", which, so claims the official ad, the visitor will leave in a flabbergasted state. It will end by Sept 26th. Obvioulsy the... More

A very nice museum displaying a broad range of artists, periods, styles. We really enjoyed the Impressionism display which had an interesting variety of artists. Just goes to show there are "masterpieces" outside of the Louvre and the d'Orsay......without the lines. :-)

I visited the museum because I wanted to see the Cathedrals exhibition which is a temporary one. I really enjoyed seeing all the paintings, drawings, objects and information about cathedrals and their influence for example in literature. Since it was 14 juillet, the entrance to the museum and this exhibition was free, something I really appreciated and I'm sure other... More

This is a wonderful art museum comparable to any in Paris or London. We were really impressed by the quality, importance and magnitude of paintings on show. I'm particularly interested in Impressionism, and there were Sisleys there I'd never seen before plus other work by lesser known Impressionist artists well worth viewing. It cost us 9 euros each to view... More
