wonderful impressionist collection and equally fantastic and stimulating b&w photo collection from post-war Le Havre

Seeing how Le Havre had been devastated and then rebuilt put life into the concrete structures of the city. Not to be missed and definitely to be repeated.

They had a couple of travelling exhibits and the impressionist works were interesting, especially those painted in France and other locations nearby.

Alongside the entrance to the ferry port at Le Havre, so could be first or last attraction on a French holiday. It is however worth a stand alone visit. Excellent restaurant, great value for money.

When first I heard it's a tapestry museum , my expectation was to see some refined work of art expressed through threads and needles. Visit to the museum was a bit disappointing and frankly put boring. Especially for one who has seen exquisite Persian, Kashmir & other central Asian tapestries. What you see is an extremely long tapestry, depicting the... More

There is currently (till 31 August 2015) an exhibition of works by the Expressionist / Bauhaus artist Lyonel Feininger, a hugely prolific American/German artist with a very distinctive linear style. Sadly, what you get here is not a full retrospective, despite the grandiose title of the exhibition (LF: arpenteur du monde / striding the world). The relatively compact event focuses... More

We had time to kill in Le Havre and we're delighted to discover this little art gallery. I happen to be a big fan of Dufy and found it interesting to see some very early works that he painted in Le Havre. I think he grew up there. There are also some other good impressionist paintings.

The painting are of course exquisite, especially if you love the Impressionists and each are marvelously displayed in perfect light, it will not disappoint. We saw two Monet's that we hadn't even seen in books. The Eugene Boudin collection is excellent and extensive and shouldn't be missed.

We were looking forward to going to this Musee. We had been in Honfleur on a Tuesday and found the Musee there closed on Tuesdays - as is this one. Clearly the French don't know anything about staff rotation etc to keep the places open 7 days. Anyway, having made our way there from our accommodation 30 miles away we... More

The MuMa has an very good collection of impressionists as well as a smattering of other periods. There is a huge collection of Boudin's work and multiple paintings form the local artist Dufy. The gallery itself is uncrowded (in terms of presentation of the art work and visitors) with excellent natural light. Admission was very reasonable. After my visit, i... More

The small French coastal city of Le Havre touts its "Muse d'Art Moderne" as containing one of the finest collections of Impressionist Art in all of France. The collection is truly impressive. The masters of the genre are all here . . . Boudin, Dufay, as well as those venerable artists listed in the title, and many more. Some of... More
