Easy bus ride from Caen to the Museum. Where they drop you off is not where you get back on, it is across the streeet

I was amazed: it's a small museum but it houses a rich collection. The ground floor is devoted to archeology in Normandy. You can see exceptional artifacts dating from the Megalithic civilization until the Carolingian period (don't miss: the helmets of the Bronze Age, the Gallo-Roman statuettes, the statue of a mother goddess and the Treasury of Airan). There are... More

Normandy and Caen itself if part of the ancient history of the mankind since the Normands were the ruler of England and were descendents of the Vikings. Excellent museum if you are interested in middle age history and also if you want to see othe art expositions.

Had feel for war with multimedia showings, exhibits. & that RAF Tyhoon fighter in main lobby was awe inspiring alone Must see museum to understand Normandy assult. Didnt bother with other exhibits. & note Sherman tanks dot Normandy beach landmarks & signs all over area for beaches etc.

Ok I'm really confused. I went to this museum in the grounds of the Caen chateau. It was vaguely interesting, looking at the history of the area from the Stone Age, but there were lots of gaps in time and nothing at all about the wars. So what did I miss? I've looked at the photos other people have posted... More

The museum gives a nice overview of the history of Normandy, beginning in the stone age. It's situated in the castle which adds to the impact.

A very interesting place to visit. Very educational. The place its self is beautiful. Once you are standing there, and you look out at the horizon and get thinking of everything that happened, and that you are there, it is a humbling experience. A must if you like war sites.

Easy 15 minute train ride to Bayeux from Caen. Small town, easy to walk, lots of things dating back to medieval ages.
