The cathedral of Notre-Dame in Bayeux is an impressive building, a mix of Romanesque in the 11th century crypt and glorious Gothic in the 13th-century nave. In the 11th century after the Conquest of England by Duke William of Normandy in 1066, ties with England were strong. You'll see a reference to the turbulent past above the south transept portal where sculpted scenes show the life of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was assassinated in Canterbury Cathedral on the orders of King Henry II of England. The Bayeux Tapestry was kept here from the 11th to the 18th centuries, probably displayed for the first time on the day the cathedral was consecrated in 1077 in the presence of William the Conqueror.

I found it amazing to see this cathedral in the middle of such a seemingly small town! I had enjoyed the Bayeux Walking Tour in the morning and had the story of the cathedral well-explained. This helped me understand the history of the timing of its building and redevelopment

Beautiful Cathedral. I like being able to enter and admire the stained glass. No fee charged. Inside for 2 euros you can choose and light a poppy candle in memory of the fallen.

If you're in Bayeux anyway and you have some time to kill, you could go and see this. Otherwise, don't bother, there are better cathedrals out there.

This is a beautiful cathedral as large as the Paris Notre Dame. We only looked at the outside and did not. I strongly recommend that you see the Bayeux Cathedral at night when it is beautifully illuminated.

The cathedral ain't no Chartres, but it is quite nice and has a unique spire situation. The city...if you are looking for an olde medieval city in Normande, this is it. So much of Normande was flattened by WWII that looking for olde stuff is really an exercise in futility. Bayeux was captured so quickly, I know not why, that... More

I love church and cathedral architecture and Bayeux is no exception. Amazingly the City survived the air raids during WW2. Love the cafes and bars around the cathedral too. It all feels very intimate

The exterior is quite magnificent, but we were a little underwhelmed by the interior. There are some impressive stain glass windows which catch the sun. It dominates the town's skyline, which gives interest.

If you are in Bayeux the cathedrale is definitely worth a visit. It is smaller and less ornate than many cathedrals and has a pleasant ambience
