Owner description: The cathedral of Notre-Dame in Bayeux is an impressive building, a mix of Romanesque in the 11th century crypt and glorious Gothic in the 13th-century nave. In the 11th century after the Conquest of England by Duke William of Normandy in 1066, ties with England were strong. You'll see a reference to the turbulent past above the south transept portal where sculpted scenes show the life of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was assassinated in Canterbury Cathedral on the orders of King Henry II of England. The Bayeux Tapestry was kept here from the 11th to the 18th centuries, probably displayed for the first time on the day the cathedral was consecrated in 1077 in the presence of William the Conqueror.

A highlight of history. The audioguide is somewhat fast, so take the the time. And go back to find some of the top moments of the story the tapestry depicts.

The exterior is quite remarkably beautiful - most of it lacy detailed stonework and then one tower so sobre and plain. Stunning

So beautiful, especially as the sun sets....I went to church with my Mom and it was such a peaceful experience. Bayeux is an incredible little town. I loved it.

The best cathedral I've seen-and I've been to plenty in Europe and the U.K. Take exterior photos at night. Spectacular.

Light show was super cool on a summer night, but the history and grandeur of this building need to be felt with an inside stroll.

Not to miss when visiting Bayeau. We visited many Cathedrales while in France, although not the most impressive, it was the most serene. In the City center and close to the Tapestry. Well worth a visit! Can be visited in a short period of time.

If you are a fan of architecture you'll love this place - particularly the exterior. The inside is less impressive than you might expect but still worth a visit. Very scenic at night.
