In the 11th century after the Conquest of England by Duke William of Normandy in 1066, ties with England were strong. You'll see a reference to the turbulent past above the south transept portal where sculpted scenes show the life of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was assassinated in Canterbury Cathedral on the orders of King Henry II of England. The Bayeux Tapestry was kept here from the 11th to the 18th centuries, probably displayed for the first time on the day the cathedral was consecrated in 1077 in the presence of William the Conqueror. « less

This is not a large cathedral but it is beautiful and well worth a look. We visited in the evening and the exterior was lit up by coloured light, it looked amazing. A must see.

This Cathedral was not that bigger (compared to the UK ones), but it was still really beautiful inside. Now i don't know if they charge to get in. We certainly weren't charged, but we did read in a guide book somewhere that they do. I think we were just lucky. There are lots of side chapels to spend time in... More

Everything went off well, excellent tour, will comment on that later in another review. Dozens of restaurants to choose from, wonderful old town - or maybe city. Untouched by the war by good luck so in pristine condition with all the old building intact. Bayeux tapestry a must.

After a full day spent touring the D-Day beaches unfortunately the cathedral was closed upon our return. We admired it from the outside and would love to visit inside next time. A beautiful building from the outside.

Similar to some of the other better cathedrals in France, i especially liked the notice boards documenting things of importance that happened through the centuries.

This cathedral is amazingly beautiful with different periods of architecture built into it. The organ is very beautiful as well.

This is a magnificent cathedral which seems to dominate Bayeux town. Not overrun with tourists,so you can visit at your leisure. Guides were available to answer queries. A peaceful and impressive site. A 'sound and light' was taking place 3 nights a week beside the cathedral at the Liberty tree - very impressive!

Even if you have no faith at all, this Cathedral is still worth seeing for the impression of vastness and how it was constructed. When we were there (July 2014), they even had a copy of the Bayeux Tapestry on display, so we could have saved ourselves a few Euros by coming here first, but then I suppose you really... More

We visited late afternoon and were able to go into the church and then returned in the evening when the church is lit up. It is quite beautiful at night and worth seeing.

This cathedral is very well maintained. It is kept up in great condition. Take the time to tour the entire church and grotto. It is extremely rewarding.
