The cathedral of Notre-Dame in Bayeux is an impressive building, a mix of Romanesque in the 11th century crypt and glorious Gothic in the 13th-century nave. In the 11th century after the Conquest of England by Duke William of Normandy in 1066, ties with England were strong. You'll see a reference to the turbulent past above the south transept portal where sculpted scenes show the life of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was assassinated in Canterbury Cathedral on the orders of King Henry II of England. The Bayeux Tapestry was kept here from the 11th to the 18th centuries, probably displayed for the first time on the day the cathedral was consecrated in 1077 in the presence of William the Conqueror.

The Cathedral dominates Bayeux and is amazingly lovely inside. Lots of stained glass windows and seems to have passed through the centuries including the Second World War unscathed. If you're in Bayeux it would certainly be a shame not to pay it a visit.

Beautiful building with perfect peace within. An easy walk from the car park and ideal if you have time to pass before or after seeing the tapestry.

Absolutely stunning by night, all lit up. Gothic style with lots of gargoyles and giant red doors. You just find yourself gazing at it. On a warm summers night, in a near by restaurant, it would keep great company. Will be going back in August and this time by day to I can explore inside too.

This cathedral is worth checking out if you are visiting Bayeux. The architecture is very impressive and it's not overrun by hoards of tourists unlike the churches of Paris.

You see the spires from afar as you enter into Bayeux. It was free of charge to enter; donations welcomed. You can also visit the crypt. So much history associated with the cathedral.

You can basically see the spires from all over town. It's near the TI office and the tapestry museum. An impressive building for such a small town. When a little help, you can make out the older sections and the more recent modifications and see the differences in architectural style. The stained glass and pulpit awning are very impressive.

The cathedral was central to the town. Beautiful high towers, very impressive. No charge to go in and worth the stop. Restaurant across from main gate the served crepes if you're into that
