Just 20 minutes from Caen by car brings you to the city of Bayeux, home of the famous tapestry which you should not miss. The price of admission provides you with your own personal headset (available in many languages) through which you will receive a step by step account as you traverse along the length of the tapestry. The history... more

The tapestry of bayeux is in many ways unique and worth the 8 euros all by itself. That is about all you get too. The rest of the museum is hodge podge and half baked. It does have a better than average gift shop. You only need an hour tops for this one. Enjoy more

What a great museum! The 70 meter long embroidered taspestry tells you the fabulous tale of William, Duke of Normandy, who set off to conquer England in 1066. There is also an interestin film giving you more information about the tapestry itself. more

I'd seen pictures of the famous Bayeux Tapestry but, I didn't have any idea of how impressive it was until I got to see it up close at this museum on September 18, 2008. I was astonished how big it was and the incredible workmanship that went into the tapestry. It is truly stunning. The museum does an outstanding job... more

This is a “must see” in my opinion; I’m surprised how impressive it is. You have to see the tapestry “in the flesh” to fully appreciate it – it really doesn’t look anything special in photos. You have to pass through the various parts of the display in a set sequence; first the tapestry, then the exhibition, then the movie.... more

This embroidery is nearly 1000 years old and beautifully tells the story of a critical moment in French and English history. The movie does an excellent job of setting the scene, and the audioguide makes the embroidery come alive. The boutique has very nice products. Time your visit so that you can start with the movie (shown in English every... more

I was really looking forward to this sight. We went twice in two (2) days it was so perfect. The tapestry is larger and clearer than I imagined, and the audio tours (which I usually hate) was clear, quick, and actually funny. My eight (8) year old son loved this sight. Because we were in Bayeux, we were able to... more

I could care less about tapestries, but don't be put off by the name. The Bayeux Tapestry is a fascinating piece created just after 1066, detailing the invasion of England by William the Conqueror that year. It is a peerless historical document, and a real work of art in its own right. Admission to the museum (7Euros) includes the recorded... more

Had one day in Bayeux primarily to take a D Day tour and squeeze in the Tapestry if time allowed. Thanks to its late closing time we breezed right in, no crowds, and were in and out in an hour. The viewing is with hand-held tape recorders which move you efficiently along the tapestry with a clear, even witty at... more

Even for a teenager such as me the tapestry was enjoyable. Wireless handsets were given to you that gave a very good commentary in many languages. Before the visit I had never even heard of the Tapestry and I had expected it to be boring. afterwards I was shocked by my interest in the tapestry and my understanding was much... more
