The Bayeux tapestry is literally unique: First, because it was made in the late 11th century, and is still in excellent condition. Second, because it is one of the major public-relations documents of the Western World. (As such, it is also great fun!) To explain: Although scholars dispute the exact reason that William the Conqueror's wife had the tapestry created,... More

This attraction was recommended by some friends who had visited Normandy last year. I have to admit, it sounded like a total "snooze-fest", but it ended up being quite remarkable. The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidery, 70 meters long, made in the 11th century. It is one of the most famous works of art in the western world from medieval... More

This is truly amazing. To think it has lasted in such a good condition for so many centuries and tells the history of the Norman Conquest so well.

The tour takes you through at the right pace, not too quick, not too slow. It is very informative too, however familiar one thinks one is with the Bayeux tapestry it is a mine of information that was certainly completely new to me. Although the tour does not take that long I feel it is reasonably priced.

While I wouldn't make the trip for it, while in Bayeux, it's certainly worth the time. The Tapestry is beautifully preserved, well lit and displayed. The audio guide is included and necessary. It's a fascinating story. My only complaint was that a couple of the visitors had the audio guides turned up loud enough that it conflicted with my own.... More

We had a most enjoyable visit to this museum. The tapestry is well displayed, with an accompanying audio presentation - although a little out of sync with the panel you are viewing. The exhibition area and the visual presentation were excellent and in hindsight it is probably better to see these first and then the tapestry.

The tapestry is an absolute marvel. I would suggest if possible to do the museum and movie upstairs first. Make sure you get the audio guide. The tapestry is quite long and is displayed in a 'U' shaped room. Although there is conjecture about who actually created it, the story of how it survived is amazing. If you are in... More
