During our visit Place Rihour was turned into a Christmas Market. Since I'm not such a fan of this events, not high rated by me...

Our first visit to both town and market. Never seen anything in the UK to compare - numerous Christmas craft stalls, crepes, vin chaud and the town and shops all lit. Fantastic historic buildings intermingled with designer outlets make this a special place to visit. Recommend longer than a weekend to see everything.

It was far too small and not what we were expecting. The South Bank in London is far better than this. We were round and out within two hours and that was looking at the stalls twice! Lille itself is pretty but the market was a no-no!

Travelled via Eurostar from London to spend day in Lille at their Christmas market (Sat 22 Nov) I had really high hopes and had visions of myself and 3 friends wondering round stalls for hours. How disappointed were we when we found xmas market not big at all and took us around 40 mins to look round (I reckon there... More

This Place was disappointing - indeed when I came across it I didn't recognise it from the photo on here. The pyramid is a messy little excuse for a pyramid and I wasn't overly moved by any of the buildings on the periphery of the Place. Worth a quick look on the way between the city's main Places and the... More

We went along to this expecting it to be something like the Louvre pyramids - it's not. The square is allright, with a church that has a war memorial wall, which is lovely, couple of nice buildings and a restaurant. However, the pyramid is dirty and horrible.

You can get a bus which will take you around the old city as well as some of the suburbs in about 30 minutes. Make sure you get on at the front of the bus and pay for the trip, unlike us who got on in the middle!!

This pretty town offers you and your family the ideal break to get you in the Christmas spirit. I took my family before Christmas for 2 nights and found a delightful town with lots of lights and places to settle in and watch the world go by with a hot chocolate for the kids and perhaps something stronger for Mum... The Place Rihour is where the Palace Rihour built by the duke of Burgundy is located. The palace is now reduced to a shadow of it's past, but nevertheless is a very impressive structure. The Christmas market is located next door. The Lille tourist office is also housed on the grounds of the palace.

Not at all what we expected having visited Lincoln Christmas market last weekend. The Lille market consists of about 80 small wooden chalets crammed onto a car park with a couple of fairground rides in adjoining squares. Easy to see in a couple of hours.
