This Place was disappointing - indeed when I came across it I didn't recognise it from the photo on here. The pyramid is a messy little excuse for a pyramid and I wasn't overly moved by any of the buildings on the periphery of the Place. Worth a quick look on the way between the city's main Places and the... More

We went along to this expecting it to be something like the Louvre pyramids - it's not. The square is allright, with a church that has a war memorial wall, which is lovely, couple of nice buildings and a restaurant. However, the pyramid is dirty and horrible.

You can get a bus which will take you around the old city as well as some of the suburbs in about 30 minutes. Make sure you get on at the front of the bus and pay for the trip, unlike us who got on in the middle!!

This pretty town offers you and your family the ideal break to get you in the Christmas spirit. I took my family before Christmas for 2 nights and found a delightful town with lots of lights and places to settle in and watch the world go by with a hot chocolate for the kids and perhaps something stronger for Mum... The Place Rihour is where the Palace Rihour built by the duke of Burgundy is located. The palace is now reduced to a shadow of it's past, but nevertheless is a very impressive structure. The Christmas market is located next door. The Lille tourist office is also housed on the grounds of the palace.

Not at all what we expected having visited Lincoln Christmas market last weekend. The Lille market consists of about 80 small wooden chalets crammed onto a car park with a couple of fairground rides in adjoining squares. Easy to see in a couple of hours.

The main tourist info centre is in Place Rihour, next to the Grande Placae and with lots of tourist restaurants (but see review of Cafe de la Paix, Cafe Flore also worth a look). The tourist pass we found expensive so don't buy it unless you're looking to use the bus tour, transport and local museums enough to justify it.... More

The whole area was very busy and festive. A compact site with all the Xmas stalls selling craft items but all in the Xmas spirit. Food was mainly sweet crepes and waffles, it was refreshing not to have lots of burger stalls as in the UK. Many cafes and bars available so you are not spoilt for choice. The general... More

We decided to visit the Lille Xmas market following an offer email from Eurostar. Only £70 return and the market looked interesting so we duly booked an 0800 Eurostar out of st pancreas on a Tuesday in late November. As usual a good journey on Eurostar, on schedule all the way. Alighting at Lille at about 1030 local time we... More
