good place to stroll by with friends and families or on your own. lots of eating and shopping nearby... also just nice to sit there and have coffee and idle the afternoon away. the only downside is that there is a cobbled road right in the middle of the place where transportation is allowed. cannot let the kids run around... Visited the lovely city of Lille at Christmas, great to walk around around the aptly Grand place, the architecture is really impressive, and shows off the wealth grandeur of this part of France. Strolling around the narrow streets & lanes is a delight, with so many inviting & colourful shops to keep you enthralled for your visit. The metro takes you just a few... More

Lots of bars, cafes and shops. Bookshops abound. Traffic is minimal so it is a relaxing place. Just to one side if the old exchange which now houses a book market in the courtyard.

Such beautiful architecture. Beautiful structures around your area. Located in the heart of the city centre and you will not be able to miss it. Bea

In the centre of Lille with a few café bars on that you can sit outside and watch the world go by along with something to eat .. Has loads of little streets off it in all directions with shops and bars on. Great place to start and find your feet

For many people, Lille is a name on highway signs on their way to or from Paris. But make no mistake! Lille is a wonderful town with great pubs, restaurants and shops. You can easily spend two or three days here, or use it as a base to go to the First World War memorials in nearby Ieper (Belgium).

Much of the shopping and dining in the old town of Lille branches off from this square. Parking is below ground. Start here to explore the great boutique shopping and dining. The Opera House is around the corner and there are some great churches to visit.

The only problem that I had was telling the walkways from the streets! There are posts that line the walkways to separate the two, but it's not always easy to differentiate the paths. However, the drivers were extremely courteous, always stopping for pedestrians who happened to wander into the street or lag behind in crossing.
