I saw the Franz Gertsch exhibition, which definitely needed a space like this, large, light, and balanced. The building itself has been very sensitively repurposed and is perfect for showing off large-scale art (and video installations in the basement). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The permanent exhibition was a bit patchy. It's a bit of a walk from... More

We've visited an exhibition by Franz Gertsch (summer '14). The building is a nice setting for his large painted works. If you like this kind of realist paintings, it is absolutely worth a visit. As in so many other cities, old buildings have been transformed to galleries. The walk towards the museum along the river was really nice. The old... More

Les Abbatoirs is now a Gallery of Modern Art so your enjoyment will depend to some extent on how you feel about modern art and on what exhibitions are on. Entrance costs €7. On the day we visited there were two special exhibitions - I liked some of the works by one of the artists but the other really didn't... More

Great reconversion for this old slaughterhouse just on the other side of the river Garonne.. Impressive space for temporary exhibition. Value of the visit is therefore in the building in itself, but of course will also heavily depend on the temporary exhibition, so important to check their internet page ahead of time. Place is easily reachable on foot from the... More

Excellent conversion of lovely old industrial buildings (the cattle market and slaughterhouse) now housing an interesting collection of 20c French art and changing visiting exhibitions. The current exhibition of Tony Smith sculpture, architecture and painting is very well displayed and looks wonderful in the huge brick halls.

In order to reach this museum on foot one has to walk for a good half hour if one is staying in downtown Toulouse and it is really not worth the time or the effort. The only thing we saw that was of any interest was a children's carrousel in the park that was adjacent to the museum. The children... More

There wasn't much happening as they seemed to be renovating, and I guess it might have been more fun here if more had been happening. I am sorry to say I found this place boring. There was a cafe that looked as if it could have been nice, but we were not really hungry. Other than this, there was no... More

The abattoirs arts centre is undergoing repairs and only had one exhibition on. - of an artist who takes humself very seriously obviously) We got in free. I'm prepared to believe it's better when fully operational. But the humourless incomprehensible art work, bleak and uninviting acres of dead space around the buildings, the prim shop and the absolute deafness of... More
