I'm Catholic but still hold much skeptimism over miracles and icons. Our group was in Tarbes and we had an opportunity to visit Lourdes (about 25 km away), so why not. Frankly, I was expecting a "Niagara Falls" tourist trap, rife with tacky shops and $$ grabs along the way. But I was wrong. The church is impressive, if you... More

It wasn't as crowded on a monday as we thought it would be. We took the train from Toulouse at 6am and arrived at 830 in Lourdes. We walked from the train station to the Sanctuary for 30 minutes. It was a nice walk in a quaint town. We went to a morning mass outside by the grotto. There were... More

Whilst the domaine has quite a large number of pilgrims, the churches and the shrine were quite. There were literally thousands there, but it was easy to find a place for prayer.

Probably the language barrier or the high expectations I held, the whole thing did not wow me unfortunately. It was a bit of a walk from the main cathedral site towards the sanctuary also. Things were explained in French, which did not help the group of English-speaking squad that we were. Most of us left unimpressed. If I were you,... More

Absolutely stunning cathedral and church, especially the chapel inside the crypt at the rear. The energy is beautiful, even for those who are not interested in the churchy stuff.

9 blissful days in the sanctuary my wife and I spent were some of the best we have experienced anywhere in the world. The caring for the sick and elderly by volunteers immediately meets ones eyes on the first day itself. All nationalities mingle as one community although the services are alien at times. The magnificent church, several chapels, the... More

This was such a wonderful spiritual experience. Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful and Lourdes is beautiful. We took a day tip to Gavanie and it was just breath taking. A must see, with the largest waterfall in Europe. Tia was an 11 day pilgrimage and worth every euro!

A place of peace, tranquility and serenity, where everybody will definitely discover or re-discover an inner peace, and as this year's theme states, one may experience the joy of conversion. The daily Aux Flambeaux procession, the International Mass, the experience in the Baths with the miracolous water are just a fraction of the experience that one can live within this... More

This place holding a lot of religious value is more of a pilgrimage center than an attraction. The Lourdes water having healing powers is one of the reasons why it gets most of its visitors. The whole cathedral and the surrounding is beautiful and there is a whole natural areas around that accounts for beautiful visit around the place for... More
