Nice tower

I loved the architecture and wanted to visit it inside: it has a lovely presentation movie, and great views of the city from the tower.

The historical surroundings was used as background for exhibitions of different kinds of modern art, combined with information about the building itself. This surprising combination did OK.

This attractive and historic monument is the ideal place to get a 360° view of Perpignan's historic centre (about 4€). Also a must visit on the evenings of the fête de st Jean in June and the national holiday on 14th July. There are free sound and light shows with fireworks on both these nights.

Imposing gateway to the old town. Start here on your explorations in Carcassonne. The maps of the town you get at the tourist centres are not helpful. Find the Castillet and walk a little way and you will find the cathedral Saint Jean Baptist, Casa Xanxo, Muse beaux-arts and the Hotel de ville in striking distance from each other. There... More

Le Castillet is a defense tower located in the center of Perpignan, before it is located in the walls of the city (when these walls were, now it does not exists), then it is located when the oldtown finish. It has some rooms with nothing, only the room, but there is a little interesting exposition about the history of the... More

Narrow stairs lead up to several exhibition rooms en route to the top. Most exhibits are contemporary art and there is one room devoted to a replica of a kitchen of the time with what seems to be genuine arfefacts. Stairs are a steep climb but good view from the top.

In the very centre of old Perpignan since it was Perpignan door. Louis XIV tried to get through but his coach was somehow too wide according to what said. Visit inside to see local customs and learn about its famous history

Having been to Perpignan a number of times previously I hadn't realised until I read it before this visit that you could actually go inside and up the tower. Its 2 Euros each to go in and there are a couple of floors with minimal items that weren't of particular interest to us however my rating is for the view... More
