This folly (pleasure house) was extended and beautifield between 1696 and 1730 by Etienne de Flaugergues, councillon to the revenue court of Montpellier. A unique three-storey staircaise with hanging key-stone vaulting of a rare elegance takes up a third of the building. Formal gardens lead to landscape gardens embellished by an orangery.

I visited with my wife as we read some positive reviews; there was nothing to see just an entry fee of 7 Euros a person for a walk in the backyard. The wine tasting was as disappointing, 3 wines to taste all in the same glass and not even some crumbs of bread…. There are so many good places in... More

From the warm welcome, to the interesting tour of the "folie" (chateau), to meeting the chatelaine, the whole experience was most enjoyable. The guide, Madeleine, was funny, informative, and personable. The "chateau" itself is lovely and has some unique architectural features. The gardens are beautiful. One can only imagine what the view was like before the highway, before the shopping... More

This is a beautiful grand house that has a fantastic restaurant. The restaurant uses local fresh ingredients and has a simple meat or fish menu. You can order a starter, main and desert or just one main. The main costs 15 euros. There is the option of a children's menu or entrecôte with fries. The Chateau also produces its own... More

If you go to the Aquarium, then walk the 10 mins to this chateau. It is gorgeous and the guided tour is well worth it. You can walk the gardens for free and they are fabulous. Wine tasting was very enjoyable and fun.

The chateau itself is nice and interesting story around it... However coming from the Loire valley where the word chateau may have a different meaning, I would say that I have seen "much better" chateaux!. The garden is hardly maintain and looks a little bit of a mess. The hedges were not trimmed, the grass is clearly suffering by the... More

Dear Pascal G, Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed by certain elements of your visit. We would however like to clarify that Flaugergues is a ‘folie’ and indeed not intended to be compared to a Chateau in the Loire. Secondly, because the family actually live in Flaugergues and open their home up to... More

It is a little out of nthe way if you are not driving, but we took a bus and a short walk and were in a lovely villa where we had a lovely personalised tour of the chateau which is still inhabited by the original family! The wine tasting was also good but the fact that you could actually hang... More

A hidden treasure just outside Montpellier accessible by tram. Great reception, with a thoroughly interesting tour of the chateau, gardens and wine tasting- couldn't have broken my wine tasting virginity in a better place.

This is a private castle on the edge of Montpellier. The indoor staircase was interesting. The park is okay but not a must-go.

Dear Visitor, While we are thankful for your kind comment about our staircase (which indeed, is very impressive!), we are sorry to read that you did not enjoy the park. However, may I point out that when automn is approaching, the park may be less enjoyable than during the spring season. We would therefore be more than welcome to see... More
