This magnificent old building is in the historic centre of Montpellier, and definitely worth a visit. We were fortunate enough to have seen an advertisement for a classical concert given by the Cologne Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra on 19 September. The acoustics were perfect for this beautiful performance, and the rich and ornate interior made it a perfect evening.

This church was one of the stops for pilgrims on the way to Santiago de Compostela. Very difficult to find, but we followed the gold shell signs on the pavement and eventually found this in a little square surrounded by restaurants. Beautiful Basilica, plentiful information in many languages,to be found on entry. I attended the Messe des Cendriers and found it very moving.

The Basilique has a typical ornate 18th century gold Baroque interior. The original 10th century church has been destroyed with only the crypt remaining. It's quite small but the biggest problem is finding it open, which tends to be in the afternoons only, but check beforehand.
