a huge open square, with restaurants for all tastes, under the gaze of the beautiful opera house (but beware - if you buy opera tickets, make sure you don't get seats with restricted legroom); the Tourist Info office is one of the best in France; if you are going by car, drive to Odysseum, take the tram, spend the day... We were there during the music festival and of course everything was buzzing. A wonderful open space with plenty of bars and restaurants.

Montpellier is hardly the beautiful town that people rave about. In fact I find it dirty, danegerous and smelly. The square is full of urinating drunks and the opera house is the sole attractive spot. The rest is dull and grimy and full if graffiti. I'd avoid Montpellier,it truly is a dump!

Claims to be one of the biggest squares in France ... A few market stalls in the day and cafes at night. Occasional big events (we saw the Festival of Music, must have been 10,000 people).

One of the largest squares in Europe full of restaurants, bars and street entertainers. Definitely the place to sit and watch the world go by. Narrow streets off the square lead to the older part of the city and nowhere is too far to walk, with cafes and bars in every little square and courtyard you come across.

Great crepier right on Le Place! be sure to save room for both a lunch crepe and a dessert crepe (with a pichet de rose to wash it all down!)

We spent a few afternoons enjoying happy hour and the locals. We picked a good spot to stop and relax. Buskers played music and we sipped our drinks. Great place to slow down and unwind after a day of sightseeing.

Beautiful square with lots going on - some fabulous street dancers whilst we were there. Yes, there were one or two beggars but there was also a police presence and we never felt threatened in any way. A great spot - not to be missed. Great to sit and watch the world go by surrounded by lovely buildings.

it's a real shame that an important and historic square is spoilt by the drunks all over the streets day and night. The authorities really need to get this sorted as it will affect the tourism. Vagrants urinating on the streets in broad daylight is totally unacceptable.
