The history of Montpejllier can quickly be grasped through a walk around La Comedie. Its wonderful buildings have played various roles through the years and it is along the boulevard from the Corum whose modernity majestically reflects L'Opera. But hey get an audio guide from the tourist office on the square. It is about €8 plus deposit and a great... More

This is definitely a must-see in Montpellier, and is one of the most impressive central squares in the French cities I have visited. One note of caution though. There seemed to be little visible security presence in the area, which meant that the scammers with their "surveys" were free to prey on anyone that looked like a tourist. They frequent... More

Just loved this square. There was always something going on - lots of street entertainers and parades. And being pedestrianised you didn't have to worry about the traffic. Surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants, there are plenty of places to sit and take the weight off your feet.

France as in all cliches. A must! You may park in a huge parking under the place because the whole center is car forbidden. Nice walk

a huge open square, with restaurants for all tastes, under the gaze of the beautiful opera house (but beware - if you buy opera tickets, make sure you don't get seats with restricted legroom); the Tourist Info office is one of the best in France; if you are going by car, drive to Odysseum, take the tram, spend the day... We were there during the music festival and of course everything was buzzing. A wonderful open space with plenty of bars and restaurants.

Montpellier is hardly the beautiful town that people rave about. In fact I find it dirty, danegerous and smelly. The square is full of urinating drunks and the opera house is the sole attractive spot. The rest is dull and grimy and full if graffiti. I'd avoid Montpellier,it truly is a dump!

Claims to be one of the biggest squares in France ... A few market stalls in the day and cafes at night. Occasional big events (we saw the Festival of Music, must have been 10,000 people).

One of the largest squares in Europe full of restaurants, bars and street entertainers. Definitely the place to sit and watch the world go by. Narrow streets off the square lead to the older part of the city and nowhere is too far to walk, with cafes and bars in every little square and courtyard you come across.
