Modern Structure

An interesting modern structure placed on the ground at the top of the park. Many steps up and contrasting glass and concrete build.

This is a fine concert hall and would be an asset to any modern day city. The complaints stem from the fact that it is located in an historically rich city which already has a beautiful old Opera / concert hall. Both seem to serve Montepellier well in their own ways.

A very large monolithic structure parked at the end of a nice wide walkway from the Place de la Comedie. It is rather sterile and lacks character. If you are attending a conference there take a water bottle - there isn't a drinking fountain in the entire facility. Inside the rooms are well-designed for conferences. The auditorium/opera house is quite... More

Magnificent set of concert halls including the Berlioz opera theatre. Easy to get to from Place de La Comedie and low bar prices during intervals.

We were a large group at Le Corum (participants in a conference) so we could not choose our food - it was a set menu. The quality of the food was average at best, and the offered wines were truly undrinkable. The dishes were very standard without any particular charm of imagination. For a French restaurant this was highly disappointing.

Walk to the top of this convention center to snatch view of Montpellier skyline. This is a city in flux - great history but striving to become relevant in 2015. You will spot centuries old sectors from here and modern mid-rise buildings. Oh, and the view is free.

Linger, take in the views, sit upon the summit, reflect on time and timelessness. The traffic grows distant, the scale of the nearby walls and architecture all around dwarfs minor human concerns. The true heart of the old city, the core of grandeur... Such places move me, take me beyond the stresses of mdoernity.

A huge red brick building at the end of the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle is an eyesore after the grandeur of Place de la Comedie and the historic buildings of the old town. It probably has excellent facilities but should not have been built in such a prominent position. The views from the end of the esplanade are fantastic.

This brutalist block dominates the approach to Montpellier Centre and maybe they'll knock it down when they can afford to.

This is the newer and statelier opera and arts and congress centre. Since it's on the Esplanade d'Europe, you can hardly avoid it. I'd say skip it, and go to the old Garnier-style opera house instead, at the top of the Place de la Comédie. It's smaller than the old Garnier opera in Paris, but equally charming.
